    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Yeah, Spell Points might be an answer if we wanted to get rid of LR recharges entirely. I just don't think D&D will abandon Vancian Magic for Spell Points as a default.

    D&D 5E (2024) Paladin/Ranger Masteries and/or Cantrips

Fine. You miss out on Archery / Interception fighting styles, then, but gain 2 cantrips. I.e., Blessed Warrior and Druidic Warrior Fighting Styles.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

I'm not sure I love the idea of 9th level spell slots recharging on short rest, though. I think there's a role for long rests and very long rests (extended downtime), but it all needs to be very very carefully balanced. I think some guidance in the DMG of # of Encounters / Short Rest, # Short...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Right, hence why short rests exist at all… Just because the game is broken in favour of 5MWD doesn’t mean you get rid of the incentives to not 5MWD… I’ve been so frustrated by the push to replace X per Short Rest features with Proficiency Bonus per Long Rest features… this packet actually...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

That’s the 5MWD. Some players feel entitled to it, and are angry when the DM doesn’t let them go back to sleep after nova’ing all their spells in one encounter. Far more problematic than short rests is the urge to long rest between every encounter.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Huh. I’ve had far more short rests than long rests in my games, because my players were use to short rests between encounters from when we played 4e. AEDU and all. Just made sense.

    D&D 5E (2024) UA Ranger (Playtest 6)

Like Archery can and should be a part of the class. But a Ranger Ranges. They’re the masters of movements, especially across long distances. Ranger base class should try to emulate Breath of the Wild style exploration and stamina features as much as possible.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Maybe the Magical Discoveries feature from College of Lore could be gimped by all Bards? I do think part of the reason for not giving just all from the get go is to avoid options paralysis but Lore exists for those who just can’t wait for 10th level…

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

I love Jack of Trades. I don’t like having to push back on Bard abilities I think are great. I also think the Ranger could get more — more of their Link-esque stamina exploration features, and earlier. I think the solution is broaden Deft Explorer, not narrow Bard spell lists. The...

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

I think we should all just discuss whether this is a new edition or not elsewhere or else we’re going to get the thread closed very quickly. :(

    D&D 5E (2024) UA Ranger (Playtest 6)

Furthermore, Ranger Spells =/= Primal Spells. Rangers have access to the Primal Spell List, but they also have bonus spells specific to the Ranger. Primal, Arcane, and Divine, are just collections of spells that fit those Power Sources’ shared tropes, to give a shared identity between Druids...

    D&D 5E (2024) UA Ranger (Playtest 6)

It differs depending on whether you're doing a Hex Crawl or a one-biome journey through Mirkwood/The Depths/The Seven Seas/Icewind Dale/the Athasian Deserts… if you're in a Hex Crawl, you might encounter multiple biomes before your LR. If you're not in a Hex Crawl, you're more likely in...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Sorry, you're right about the half speed; for some reason I had it in my mind that swimming and climbing required constant skill checks if you didn't have an associated speed. That's not in the Ranger block though, it's in the glossary. And the Ranger gets 40ft walking, climbing, and swimming at...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Skills are not the be-all and end-all of the Exploration Pillar. First off, the Ranger has 3 Skill proficiencies, same as the Bard. They have Expertise in 1 skill at first level and another at 9th level, while yes the Bard gets 2 at 2nd level and another 2 at 9th level, plus half-proficiency at...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you see Full Casters played at your Table?

Most of my games don't go to over level 7, but nobody really likes to Multiclass. And full casters show up a lot. There isn't an option for me here that accurately depicts my tables, since the only truthful answer is misleading at best. Or rather, it speaks to the inability of the survey...

D&D 5E (2024) So where are the higher tier feats?

Sorry, I meant them as content, not customization options. I am speculating that the 5.24 DMG will help with higher-tier gameplay guidance, and that the 5.24 PHB will have these higher tier feats. They're just not relevant for this package.

D&D 5E (2024) So where are the higher tier feats?

May I ask you what The Rise of Tiamat and Dungeon of the Mad Mage are, then? I'm CERTAIN that there are tables that only bought these and not the lower-level modules related to them.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Primal Valour Bard lacks fighting styles, weapon mastery, Hunter's Mark, favoured terrain, Zeldaesque stamina exploration features, Conjure Barrage and Conjure Volley, Blindsight, BA Invisibility Mod/Rest, not to mention subclass features that Ranger gets but the Bard is foregoing because it's...
