D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Consider clerics. I would argue most games aren't forcing players to do all of these religious rituals and maintain a long codex of rules they have to follow, etc etc....even though narratively they should. I think people often feel the same about warlocks and pacts. Its the source of their...

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

When I think of GMs and Player skill I often divide it in 3 categories: GMs vs Skilled Players GMs vs Skilled Players with narrative constraints GMs vs some skilled players and some not skilled Ultimately GMs for a skilled group on its own isn't too hard. A DM can always throw more challenge...

    Spoilers Alien: Earth Spoiler Thread

Take near any animal on this planet, and have something jump right at it...its going to react and try to get it off. Xenomorphs aren't stupid, they see some unknown little critter jump on them, they are going to get that sucker off as quick as they can!

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

Out of those, I think the two biggest notes: 1) Only fighters had real ranged weapons. Now in a dungeon like setting that wasn't as important as today where adventures/campaigns involve more open world type fights. But that's a really powerful notion. 2) The wizard interrupt rule. Now its a...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

honestly you add in some more charisma/int based manuevers and I think the battlemaster is a solid Warlord Chassis.

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Yeah the trick with 4e "roles", is that while the rules state each class has a role, in reality the classes often had a minor "secondary role" baked in. The fighter was a Defender/Striker for example. Yes defending was its main thing....but it could still bring the pain.

    Spoilers Alien: Earth Spoiler Thread

Yeah this one might go from sci-fi to sci-fantasy pretty fast. So we have already determined that she is in fact "hearing" frequencies, they even noted the frequencies where her hearing picked it up. There should be no reason they couldn't use another sound recorder in the same frequency range...

Level Up (A5E) acolyte squad casting sleep

Exactly. Templates are a fine start but like any monster design has to be put through a litmus test. This is one showcase where the damage is simply beyond what is reasonable for that CR, and so an adjustment should be made.

Just a reminder all, this is a "+" thread. Starting to feel a little hostile in here.

D&D General Gladiator = Weapon Master

Yeah I have to agree. Once you brass tax it I'm not seeing much that you couldn't do with a Battlemaster who is not so dependent on charisma. The only thing that is "wow" about the gladiator is the stagger at lvl 10, which to me is the most powerful ability by far in a normal party. Your...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

In a single monster I agree...but you can with multiple models. to your point from earlier, 4e's solo wasn't a one size fits all. Different solos approached the problem in different ways. Some split into multiple monsters, some gave you a bloodied immediate action, some gave you multiple turns...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

It was more common in later 4e monsters to have monsters go at initiative 20, 10, etc. Now often these monsters could only do a standard action at that initiative (not a minor), but you still got the notion of the monster going multiple times in a round. I actually just looked back at a few...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Agreed. I have wondered what was the thinking shifting from 4e solo design to 5e legendary monster system, as I agree it seems like such an easy idea to have the monster go at multiple initiatives. did they find it was too complex, the monsters too powerful, they were just really trying to go...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

So 66 pages deep, thought I would finally jump in with my short list. Overall, 5e is a pretty good system, "everyone's 2nd favorite" as they say. So I think any attempts to "go radical" or likely to be met with failure. So we need to look at some key areas. Monster Design While the player side...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

It does it at the cost of extra rules and more things to keep track of though. That was ultimately my player's feedback after our A5e game, they didn't think the new layer of rules added enough "oomph" to warrant it (which was surprising as even my more crunchy oriented players thought the...

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

This would be like the CEO of Apple using a samsung phone as their main phone, and when asked "oh I still use my iphone for my email checking all the time....I just the samsung for the majority of my apps". Daggerheart was promoted to be a more narrative focused type of dnd like RPG that would...

    SkyNet really is ... here?

I actually think at this point its less true Hubris and more the issue of competition. Its the same problem with weapons. Once one nation has a certain class of weapon that can beat another, that second country HAS to get their hands on it. If they don't, they are saying that Nation A could take...

    SkyNet really is ... here?

Imagine a world where everyone has weapons as you say. And you don't have any guns or anything....but your the Flash (aka the comicbook super hero). Who would win? The trick with AI is the speed. By the time you have even concieved the thought of doing something, an advanced AI could already...
