    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

You are correct that the frequency saves does depend on the setting and what monsters are used. But there are two caveats there: 1) Since we are all talking in generals, there are saves that are more common than others. I think its a very reasonable statement to say characters will make...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

I think Wizards are completely fine as a class. But I also fully respect if your focus is on combat and your games don't do a lot of downtime and exploration and other pillars that the wizard loses luster compared to other spellcasters. Wizard don't bring the raw flavor and power of some other...

D&D 5E (2024) Seeking feedback on homebrew monsters

I would say if your goal is to challenge so many PCs without adding more monsters....we need to focus more on area effects, whether its spells from the monsters or (my preference), effects from the terrain itself. Perhaps the goblins have already trapped the area so there are various effects...

    D&D General Games Economies

The game lists iron as a trade material costing 1 sp per lb. Now the question is do we need true steel, or would iron and charcoal suffice? Lets assume a more stringest standard. Now how much would steel cost? I've seen numbers all over the place, from like 1 gp/lb to like 5 gp/lb. I'll go with...

    D&D General Games Economies

With respect, this is the ENTIRE point of this thread, to make a more realistic economy for people that want that sort of thing. So I highlighted certain spells that would need special handling, like fabricate, to prevent economy breaks and for dms to decide how they want to handle it. I...

    D&D General Games Economies

You can actually use fabricate twice a day with arcane recovery (the slots round up so you can get 1 4th level slot). Based on the 2024 crafting rules, a wizard fabricating plate armor can replace 300 armorsmiths in terms of speed of productivity. That's a pretty sizable chunk of the armorsmith...

D&D General Hit Points are a great mechanic

my personal favorite is the VP/W system (vitality and wounds). Its a version of hitpoints where you have two pools, vitality and wounds. Vitality is taken first, representing your stamina, ability to dodge, etc. Its tracked like normal hitpoints. Once vitality is depleted, new damage is applied...

    D&D General Games Economies

One of the other common things discussed in how economies get wrecked by PCs is through various magics. One of the classics....Fabricate. The wizard becomes 7th level, they can now create objects that once took weeks of labor in 10 minutes. No mundane craftsman can compete, and at face value...

    D&D General Games Economies

Alright so the first hurdle I mentioned is above, lets go to the next step. Lets assume that we have built a decent economic model for a small city. Prices are reasonable for what such a city needs to conduct its business. Now we insert a group of 5th-6th level adventurers. Not crazy high...

    D&D General Games Economies

actually +1 weapons and armor are very magical, its +2/+3 weapons that are less so. With that +1, you weapons that are immune to the normal wear and tear or weapons, can cut through any resistant materials, and can resize to fit the user! The +2/+3 bonus on top really doesn't do all that much...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024: Is disabling a trap now automatic?

yep I missed it, thank you very much.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024: Is disabling a trap now automatic?

I was looking over some of the trap rules in 2024: Traps | D&D 2024 | Roll20 Compendium and was reading over all the example traps, when something hit me. For every trap, it mentions how to find them....but disabling is automatic. Aka once you figure out the trap, there is no real "disable...

    D&D General Perception vs Investigation

I do agree with this point, I think in practice the notion of using two rolls to hammer out the scene just feels clunky, so I think the two skills often share significant overlap and it often boils down to which skill DM or player prefers. The flavor text may differ between the two skills, but...

    D&D General Games Economies

The problem at a fundamental level.... is Continual Flame. Or put another way, the issue is less about the accumulation of coin than it is the accumulation of wealth. In actual medieval societies, the vast majority of things are degradable. The servants...die. Livestock....die. Your...

Who is your favorite James Bond?

I still say that in terms of the suave, sophisticated Bond...its Brosnan all the way. He's got the look of a guy that can "cool" his way through any situation. But a number of other bonds do the action part a lot better, Craig being the most recent one.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Just noting that 5+ level, even just a break on a 1 means a fighter will be breaking a weapon every 3-4 fights on average. So on a typical adventuring day, a fighter would expect to lose 1-2 weapons to breakage.

    Spoilers Alien: Earth Spoiler Thread

One thing that is interesting about BK in these end confrontations. While he is clearly still scared at least at a primal level....he is also excited and intrigued at the same time. I think there is a part of him that is just so terribly bored by life, that this life and death situation is the...

    Spoilers Alien: Earth Spoiler Thread

I do agree that this particular xenomorph is like a hero xenomorph. Its one thing for the things to take out a squad when they have surprise and are in tight spaces and the like. But when its an open room and the thing kills 3 fully armed and aware guards like its nothing, its like come on they...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Many creatures (including us) have mental programming that comes from our genetics. Our natural "instincts" are not all taught, some of them are straight up embedded in our code. Considering we still have a lot to learn about the genetic code, the idea of personality aspects coming from a...
