D&D 5E (2014) It's official, WOTC hates Rangers (Tasha's version of Favored Foe is GARBAGE)

As someone who was actively playing at the time, I remember it as being a solution to the "armored ranger" problem. Someone felt that rangers in plate mail was badwrongfun, and so decided to incentivize rangers to wear studded leather armor by giving them a benefit that only worked when they...

    D&D General Copper Dragon Pranks?

I once had an ancient faerie dragon wait until a PC had climbed up to their rocky cliff nest, and then polymorph them into a hippopotamus. The fun came in the knowledge that the falling damage was just enough to break the polymorph on impact, without carrying over excessive damage to the PC.

    D&D 5E (2014) What are Possible Ancestors/Sources for a Shadow Sorcerer Bloodline?

Well if you're going to make me google it again, it's Chaulssin.

    D&D 5E (2014) Twilight Cleric - temp hp question

I know that temp hit points don't stack, but I'm not clear on this: There's a fighter standing in the divine aura of a Twilight Cleric. This round he gains (say) 10 temporary hit points. On the ogre's turn, he hits the fighter for 17 HP, using up the fighter's temp hp and giving him 7 damage...

    D&D 5E (2014) What are Possible Ancestors/Sources for a Shadow Sorcerer Bloodline?

There's a whole city in FR that's about a group of drow that bred with shadow dragons for a bloodline. One of my players is using that.

Dragonlance [Dragonlance/Faerun] Anyone here met any Cataclysm/Wall of the Faithless defenders?

Eat the gods! Seize control of the means of worship and redistribute the prayers to the people!

D&D 5E (2014) A brief rant about Rime of the Frost Maiden, farming, logistics, and ecology

Check his twitter - he's been commenting on it sporadically. He certainly likes it much better than DiA.

D&D 5E (2014) A brief rant about Rime of the Frost Maiden, farming, logistics, and ecology

To be fair, it's not the two years of winter, it's the two years of darkness that kills the ecology. But I'm just going with the "it's magic" handwave because I suspect my players don't care.

Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden -- A Comprehensive Review

I'm picturing it as something from out of Stephen King movies - there's just enough townsfolk in the "angry mob" mentality to force the others to go along. Some of the Speakers probably don't approve, but can't keep control if they try to stop it.

D&D 5E (2014) Wall of Force Question; Can it cut through Stone?

There were references in the Mystara gazetteers (iirc) to people using Walls of Force as cutting tools, but I'm pretty sure later designers nixed that idea, just like blinding enemies with Light spells.

D&D 5E (2014) Running Rime of the Frost Maiden

Maybe these aren't nice, innocent townsfolk. Maybe these are Stephen King townsfolk.

D&D 5E (2014) Running Rime of the Frost Maiden

The Easthaven quest is one of the moderately-harder ones - 2nd level at least, I'd say - so I'm not sure you'd want to steer them there first. I was thinking Bryn Shander and then Easthaven?

D&D 5E (2014) Who got their Rime today?

I got mine. Basically, it's a series of adventure locations with some really interesting encounters, but the narrative is lacking. It's fixable, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Neverland: It's Peter Pan for D&D!

My version was a domain of Ravenloft.

D&D 5E (2014) The Gaming Gang Pages Through Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden

I feel that you need to focus the adventure on the mystery of the final chapter, and change a few story elements so that the narrative logically flows to that point. I think the encounters themselves are full of promise, and I think the adventure will be worth the effort to fix it.

I noticed that - how long does that mean he's been in the joint?

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd...tarokka deck necessary?

I used the rigged deck trick myself, but with a twist - I set up the basics of a standard tarot reading ahead of time, with a card to represent each of the PCs. I had a player shuffle the deck (I wanted the random element) and then dropped the initial cards on top when I slid the cards back for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monks Suck

I'm wondering how much of these "problems" with monks would be addressed if they game system had more support for them. They can't easily find magic items that enhance their abilities, like fighters, or extend their resources, like spellcasters. And they apparently don't have the...

D&D General Why Exploration Is the Worst Pillar

I think it's because it's the hardest of the pillars for a DM to do well. You have to build a world full of interesting things for players to discover, and they have to be things your particular players actually want to discover.
