    Psionics--the Poll!

Depends on the game and the setting. D&D psionics have never made a lot of sense to me, but a game that used psi instead of magic would be an interestingly different flavour. A GURPS campaign I played which was specifically about the emergence of psionics in a previously mundane 1960s worked...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

It depends whose life you're dealing with slices of. There's a character of mine who once got duplicated. After some argument, the duplicate went off to be a Pirate Queen in a Spelljammer universe, something the original would be fully capable of but didn't want to do. Some years later, she...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Since I don't enjoy four-colour superhero comics, I can't really buy into the genre. Yeah, I can't help doing that.

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Post-apocalypse does not appeal much. I've enjoyed a game set a few centuries later, trying to rebuild civilization, but some people seem to glory in the collapse, and that doesn't appeal at all to me.

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Much the same here. The only superhero campaign I stuck with was built round mythic archetypes rather than comics tropes. I've no objection to romance spontaneously happening within a campaign, but a game where romance is the point isn't the kind of drama I can readily deal with.

Fantasy Art Commissions: Have You Ever Commissioned Some Artwork?

I've commissioned lots of art for the GURPS fanzine I co-edit, The Path of Cunning. Dan Smith and Kurt Wilcken are the artists I've used the most. We also use a lot of Dover Books' electronic clip-art.

Describe your last RPG session in more than 5 words.

Avalon is infested with portals to other worlds, which open and close randomly, but has a smaller number of "nexus points", which can be controlled. Our wizard is learning to control one, which involves going through it and then practising controlling it from the other side. This uses up all her...

Describe your last RPG session in more than 5 words.

Our GURPS Dungeon Fantasy campaign was often playing two scenarios at once. The player of our wizard is quite often busy with other things on Wednesdays, so the rest of the party would play a different scenario on those occasions. The GM wasn't at all bothered about continuity details, and the...

Checking the Geology of a Map

Looks reasonable. Players do sometimes care about this: I once pointed out to a DM that the lack of a river just there didn't make any sense unless someone had moved it underground or similar, and a whole new plot line appeared.

July, 1940. We are engaged in transporting the Duke & Duchess of Windsor from Lisbon to the Bahamas, where the Duke is to serve as governor. Because our aircraft, the Short S.30 Empire-class flying boat Cathay lacks the range for a direct Atlantic crossing, we have to go the long way around...

Any ideas what to run for the ides of March

Set up something that looks like a plot against a ruler by one of his friends? For a twist, it's actually a bluff, to see if anyone is disloyal enough to join in the plot. For a double twist, there's a real plot that's trying to exploit the bluff to get someone else blamed for a murder.

Describe your last RPG session in more than 5 words.

As we ascend the Orinoco River looking for El Dorado, things are gradually getting weirder. We had zombies in a graveyard ages ago, but man-sized spiders are definitely another step away from mundane reality. We were attacked by three while we were moving along the river bank, and had to stop to...
