D&D General They're Building A Memorial Game Table Sculpture In Honor of Gary Gygax

People with a grudge against Gail or whatever and who can't resist sounding off would be inclined to do that regardless. Asking people to please refrain is definitely not an invitation. Any more than posting the rules on this forum is an invitation to behave contrary.

    AD&D 2E Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play AD&D 2E? How Was/Is It?

THAC0 was a bit of a simplification from the tables with their repeating 20s. Most players clearly got the hang of descending AC and the needed calculations, but there was always a sub-set who had trouble with it. There was almost always one or two at the table who had issues with the...

D&D General Oh Please give me some Happy Backgrounds!!

The amount of actual murder (as opposed to subdual) can vary from campaign to campaign and character to character. Especially in 5E where you can almost always choose to knock people out. And being discontented doesn't always stem from tragedy at home. As we've seen a bunch of examples of...

Smart to autoregulate like that. Not that I feel like I can tell you anything ( ), but definitely smart to listen to our joints!

D&D General They're Building A Memorial Game Table Sculpture In Honor of Gary Gygax

That's been mentioned a few times in this thread. The President of the GMF also informed us in an earlier post in this thread that $18k was raised and donated by WotC from these reprints.

D&D General They're Building A Memorial Game Table Sculpture In Honor of Gary Gygax

To my understanding this plaque was installed in 2009. The 2012 fundraiser was by the Gygax Memorial Fund (with support from WotC) for the statue. The GMF has made limited progress on that in the ensuing years but has now re-launched their efforts.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yeah, I've played in a couple of D&D campaigns using Magic canon/background as the settings. One tried to adapt some mechanical elements as well and didn't really work. The other just used the setting(s) (multiple planes; this was a 4E game running Paragon to Epic, and we got limited access to...

D&D General Oh Please give me some Happy Backgrounds!!

Heck yeah. I am reminded of a Reddit post from some years ago about giving your DM ways to threaten and personalize a plot or game to your characters.

D&D General Oh Please give me some Happy Backgrounds!!

McClane goes to great lengths in the movie NOT to be the one to take on the bad guys. To get the local cops on it and to duck and hide until he's basically forced to take them on himself. Matt Colville used it (in a video on engaging players with plot) as a prominent example of a protagonist...

D&D General Oh Please give me some Happy Backgrounds!!

I am reminded of how The Nightmares Underneath, as part of character creation, asks you to explain either A) Why the character is compelled to fight the nightmare incursions, or B) Why they are unable to hold down a normal job and are thus forced into an adventuring life. I've noticed this...

    Our Physical Fitness

Saturday got in and did three rounds of machine triceps extensions with drop sets, four rounds of machine biceps curls with drop sets, and three of machine leg extensions with drop sets on the last two. Got my quads good and wobbly, and still feeling some ache today. Good tips, thanks! I...

    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

All of this. 7 PCs with 12 levels between them? So averaging just over 2nd level? Yikes. I'd be hesitant to even throw L5 monsters at them without clear ways to avoid the fight.

    AD&D 2E Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play AD&D 2E? How Was/Is It?

How so? When I got 2E I found THAC0 a welcome rationalization and convenience compared to the combat matrices I learned on from BECMI and 1E. I do think descending AC in general is counter-intuitive, though the Target 20 variation makes it simpler and more straightforward, especially if you...

I think it probably had the most actual players in California, less so outside that region.

Ya Basic! Trying To Understand the Perception of AD&D and the Sales of Basic

Ja. That was one of the sales/market penetration advantages of the Basic/Expert and BECMI lines, that they were also sold in toy stores and big department stores. Though my local chain book stores (due to the Random House distribution deal, IIRC) and toy stores in the 80s also had some AD&D...

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

100%, although with the caveat that they introduced recurring saves (with frequency dependent on subject's Intelligence) in Greyhawk in 1975. So they realized how nasty Charm Person was pretty early.

D&D General Friday Fun: Now THIS Is D&D Rock!

Using longer song titles might make it easier for me. Fall Out Boy: ""I've Got Darkvision and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth" A Perfect Circle: "Counting Bodies Like Orcs to the Rhythm of the War Drums" Death Grips: "You Might Think He Loves You for Your Money But I Know What...

I'm glad you find it so! I'm having a terrible time at the original assignment, but I've really enjoyed Loot the Body since I discovered them a few years ago.
