D&D General Recommend me a somewhat contained setting

I’m kinda curious of those that do run sandboxes, do you a use homebrew setting, or a pre-existing campaign setting? Do you have a go to setting or does it differ with each campaign?

WizKids Announces D&D Monster Manual Minis, Featuring New Designs

Some nice sculpts there. Love the mummy gnoll (or whatever it is?) I’ll have to see the full set, I think my days of buying a brick of each set is behind me. Overall I think the quality of WizKids minis has improved over time, I just have pretty much everything I need at this point. I’m...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

The only way a gaming style can go extinct is if no one plays that way anymore. And the only way that can happen is if no one enjoys that style of play anymore. And if no one enjoys that style of play, is it really any great loss? Reading this thread has made me realise that what I thought was...

WizKids to Release Glow-in-the-Dark D&D Miniatures

You’re probably right, it’s usually gotta be dark enough that you wouldn’t be able to read your character sheet for it to actually work. In all honesty we struggled to read our sheets by candlelight as it was, it was something that didn’t last, but was some dumb fun at the time. I can see a...

WizKids to Release Glow-in-the-Dark D&D Miniatures

We used to play by candlelight in high school. All our character sheets had burnt edges. Why not glow in the dark minis? You can see some more of the set here… MinisGallery - D&D Underdark Expeditions

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

Yeah, something like Skyrim is more open world. But it has a massive sandbox element. I spent way more time playing the game after I finished the story. My favourite memories were spending weeks as a vampire getting chased out of towns, sneaking around, etc…

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

Yeah, probably one of the best examples.

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

Probably something broader than is accepted here? I was going by the wiki definition... A sandbox game is a video game with a gameplay element that provides players a great degree of creativity to interact with, usually without any predetermined goal, or with a goal that the players set for...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

I'm also not sure it's a style I'd recommend for a new DM.

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

Given sandbox style games are still very common in videogaming, I think there will always be people taking influence from that and trying to emulate the experience in TTRPG's. If a sandbox was your intended goal, there's still useful advice in the new DMG that would help someone run a game like...

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

Loved the series. Talk about sticking the landing! I really liked KB rolling out of the crashed ship onto/with the pile of gold.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Side note: I don’t think the length of a thread is really an indication of controversy. Sometimes it’s just a lot of discussion, and not always even on topic.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

It’s true, I’ll only have myself to blame if it does.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Blurgate? lol What did Damon Albarn say/do this time? Can stop adding ‘gate’ to things and calling them scandals? It wasn’t Watergate-gate. I guess I should be happy no one started saying OGLgate.

    NOSFERATU - Spoilers

Apparently Anya Taylor-Joy was first choice for the Lily-Rose Depp role, but the filming clashed with Furiosa.

    NOSFERATU - Spoilers

It’s playing at the IMAX, which is tempting for a second viewing, except they’re only doing night screenings and I’m more a matinee guy. There was some odd laughter during my showing, Eggers does have a weird sense of humour (see: The Lighthouse), and I did laugh when Dafoe said he’d seen...

    NOSFERATU - Spoilers

I could only see a previous thread for the movie trailer. Thought I'd start a new one for people that have seen the film and wish to talk about it. Personally, I loved the film. Probably my favourite film by Robert Eggers. Maybe my favourite vampire film, I'm still thinking about that one...

Dungeons & Dragons Pinball Machine Announced

I love me some pinball. I haven't played much since the Covid lockdowns, but before that I was pretty regular. Will be keeping an eye out for this one. Wish there was some pics of the playfield and cabinet.

D&D General Should the DM roll in the open?

Since we play on Discord and don't use on online dice roller, everyone in my group rolls in secret. Both DM and players. We're friends and trust each other. In person I use a screen to hide my notes, so it's easier to roll behind that. I also don't like that rolling things in front pf players...
