    D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Knight/Bladesinger Multiclass War Magic-Extra attack class features

From what Jeremy said in this video, you don't get 2 cantrips. You get cantrip and 2 attacks. Bladesinger's multiatack triggers warmagic in a sense that you replaced one attack with cantrip which fullfils Warmagic stipulation that you get extra attack as a bonus action when you use action to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Knight/Bladesinger Multiclass War Magic-Extra attack class features

From the wording perspective, both do similar thing. You can attack and cast. Warmagic is less powerfull version since it burns 2 actions (one for casting and bonus for attack). Bladesinger on the other hand, can do it using one action. Personally, i would rule it as no, you can't use both...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

You're right. Haven't used that one in long time, forgot it's only for spells that require attack roll. Thx :) But rest of it still stands. It's magic mortar and if you use it as that, it's solid.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

Fireball is magical equivalent of mortar. Decent range and area burst damage. Paired with Spell sniper feat ( double range, ignore half and 3/4 cover) is nasty against grouped enemies in warfare scenario.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

AoE spell vs single target is wrong tool for the job. Fireball is crowd control, you use it to dispose bunch of low hp minions (or burn down village or two). If you mostly fight 1 big monster or couple of decently strong ones, then yes, Fireball sucks ( as do other damaging aoe spells). Same is...

D&D General Do you play in person or online?

In person only. Played on line during covid, but wasn't for me. Big part of ttrpg appeal for me is hanging out with friends and having screen free group activity (and having some me time with friends without wife/kids around). Between on line gaming and no gaming, i would rather just not play at...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

I wouldn't go so far as to say they are nearly unintelligible with one another. House rules are there mostly for people to tailor base game more to their desired experience. But unless they seriously alter core mechanics, they are still just variations on base 5e. If you learn to play RAW 5e...

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

TBH, commom is just placeholder language and one of convenience. It's there to represent language all the players speak so their characters can communicate without trouble regardless what characters backgrounds are. Sure, if all the characters are from the same place, your "common" might be...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

@Lanefan Just to clarify, you play 5e, right? Since this is tagged as 5e, not general, i would assume we all talk about same edition. I mean, everyone is free to do at their table what they like. That's the beauty of this game. We all technically play same game, yet with house rules, every...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

Xp if you play with xp. If you don't ( most people i know don't and have switched to milestones ages ago), no loss there. Loot is also insignificant, at least in 5e, if you can't buy magic items. After level 3-4, you got best mundane items you can have. Also, if you are short of cash and morally...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

One solution is - don't even bother. That's what i do. Dropped trash encounters. Only fights party get's into is meaningful fights and fights that make sense in setting. No more bunch of small encounters whose only purpose is to force players to spend some slots or other abilities and then force...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

5e is setup to provide challenge trough the grind. Monsters have inflated HP so they stay longer, and they are designed like that to slowly chip away at PCs expendable resources and not go down too fast.

D&D 5E (2014) Feat, Magic Items, or Multiclassing? Which do you choose?

Magic items. Without them, you get best gear by level 3-4 and then you are stuck with what you have for the rest of the game. I played and ran games without feats and it was ok, even with feats, most people still took ASI over them. Since most games end at about level 10, you get 2, maybe 3...

D&D 3.x No ideas for character

Before Bo9S came out, my go to for melee was 2 levels of fighter, then cleric all the way. For fun, oversized weapon, plus Monkey grip. Enlarge is good until you get Righteus Might ( +4 str, +2 con, +2 natural armor, DR 3/evil that rises to DR6 at lv 12). For dex builds and exotics, i used...

D&D 3.x No ideas for character

I'm not familiar with classes from dragon magazine. But from reading this, it's mediocre class at best. Best martials, hands down, are Crusader and Warblade from Bo9S. Stances and manouvers make huge difference. They are almost on par with casters. Exotic weapons in most cases aren't worth it...

D&D 3.x No ideas for character

Yeah, been a while. Sorry bout bugbear. Try to find template or low LA (+1/+2) race that gives you STR and CON and doesn't give penalty to INT if you go Warblade route. Other option, take human for extra feat, 10 levels Crusader/Warblade and 2 levels of fighter. Exotic weapons usually aren't...

D&D 3.x No ideas for character

Don't waste levels with level adjusted races. Or, if you are going melee route and want to max damage, take Bugbear. LA1, +4 str +2con +2dex -2cha, +3 nat armor. Then 11 levels of Warblade. Bugbear also gets some racial levels, that are nice. Other option is 2 levels of fighter and 10 lv of...

D&D 3.x No ideas for character

Straight up 12 levels of Warblade from Bo9S. 3.5 fighter is good for 2 or 4 level dip ( 4 levels for specialization). After that, you take another better class. 169k PO? You mean 169k gold for items and such?

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

5e combat can be rather quick, if you want it quick. But you need to pick, do you want challenging tactical fight or you want quick and epic. It boils down on what makes combat fun for your group. If they like combat so they can use their cool powers, it's very easy to design encounter, even...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

Combat can be tedious slog or can be fast and furious. It largley depends on group ( how well people know their characters, how well they synergise together ) and on DM's encounter design. One thing you can't control is dice. I had sessions where everyone rolled piss poor in medium level games (...
