Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I mean you don't really need a stat above 16 in 5e. You could play a 1-20 campaign with a max stat of 16 and be 100% fine. It could actually be pretty awesome. You are talking about a +2 difference. That just isn't a big deal IME. We max stats at 18 in our game and at level 15 we still have...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

well that is disappointing. I preferred DS when I thought magic was much less of an option. Oh well, I can always make changes if I ever want to run the setting

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Sure, but it isn't very thematic as "defiling" IMO.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

So like all humans throughout history then?!

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

That was it? Not very inspired, IMO. Definitely doesn't live up to the name!

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Theros essentially took a bunch of options off the table. From Theros: A diverse assortment of peoples dwell among the lands of Theros. Aside from humans, the races in the Player’s Handbook are unknown on Theros, unless they’re visiting from other worlds. This chapter provides information...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I am familiar with the setting, but not he old mechanics. What did defiling do mechanically in AD&D. I was under the impression that magic using classes were simply banned in DS, I didn't realize there was a mechanic that let you use magic through defiling.

D&D's The Book of Dragons Comes Out in August

Personally I assume any and all information about entities as great as deities and their ilk is unreliable / not wholly accurate

D&D's The Book of Dragons Comes Out in August

Yes, the have mind flayer dragons and dracohydras but not the other chromatic or metallic dragons. It is a bit odd IMO as well.

D&D's The Book of Dragons Comes Out in August

Not exactly. The 2nd paragraph of the Tiamat section states: "Many scholars believe that Tiamat was a primordial dragon who helped form the Material Plane with her brother Bahamut." And Bahamut is describe as "A primordial dragon so massive he dwarfs..." Also, both Tiamat's Lament and The...

D&D 5E (2014) Ben Riggs talks to Richard Baker. Phandelver in 2018 alone sold 300k copies.

That is true of any adventure someone claims is the best thing ever. There is not correct answer to that - it is, like D&D, very personal and subjective. What is great for your is terrible for someone else. That is the way.

I didn't realize - my apologies. For my part, I only backed the artist sketch version - no AI art for me!

    D&D 5E (2024) Tiamat Unleashed

Everything is done except: Final edits (need to check with the editor) One piece of art and need to do Primordial Tiamat stats I have been busy with work and personal life so I haven't really had the energy / motivation to work on the art or primordial tiamat. I hope that will change soon!

    D&D General D&D: Literally Don't Understand This

I agree, it always is. The opposite for me. Now the PHB had more of the happy go lucky art; but I barely pay attention to that book! The DMG and MM art is where it is at for me and that as definitely had more of the dark and grim art than the bright happy art. I like both, but the grittier...

    D&D General D&D: Literally Don't Understand This

I am curious, how much do you think the most recent books from WotC (the MM & DD) fit into the idea of modern art:
