D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

I'd say it's more that most RPG producers are desperately underpricing in a bid for market share. With stuff like Paizo's price hike, that instinct is bowing to inflationary pressures. I even recall many third party publishers (like Paizo) saying they were happy when WotC raised their prices to...

D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

Another financial comparison: back in 2000, WotC sold 32 page softcover books for $9.95 MSRP. $15 adjusted back to 2000 for inflation is ~$8.02.

Employees are, however, not free. Again, it just depends on howany people judge these short books as being worth the price of a sandwich lunch or not. You don't, I don't want digital at anyplace, but time will tell.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Exactly, one of the core features of Eberron, there Dragonmarks, have had four completely differmexhabixal interpretations at this point. All still Eberron.

D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

It makes no sense to take D&D out of the picture when discussing what is industry standard, since it is the lion's share of the market. But I wouldn't be surprised if Demiplane is beginning to pass up PDF, given how even WotC is on it now.

TSR On the Relative Merits of the TSR Editions

I did not, I was clarifying an apparent misunderstanding. Isaiah B/X has gotten a lot of OSR attention, which it has comparatively. As you said yourself, OSW was not the only B/X like in town.

D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

Nothing is essentially free, Beyond has servers and employees to pay, same as the sandwich shop. Right, so...the WotC products that are 90% of the market...?

TSR On the Relative Merits of the TSR Editions

There are more varieties of B/X on the market, compared to say variants of 2E.

D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

I mean everything, including sandwiches. Reports are that Arizona iced tea will have to raise their prices soon or go out of business, as kt is they have had to tighten their belts and cut corners. I mean, that is assuming this fails. It might do well, depends on whether people feel it offers a...

D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

I didn't say I wasn't interested in discussing the subject. D&D is the majority of the market, and now more and more third party content is on Beyond. PDF is not the dominant electronic format in the RPG industry at this point, between Beyond and Demiplane.

D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

The point of bringing up Paizo's price changes is to show unsustainable those lower prices are increasingly becoming, for everyone and everything. Right, if it fails it is because the market won't bear it.

D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

It's pretty straightforward: D&D is sold on Beyond, not in PDF. Ergo, by volume it is the industry standard.

D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

I mean, right now HTML readers like Beyond are the industry standard for digital RPG stuff: even OneBookShelf has moved that direction with DemiPlane.

For context on how "predatory" $15 is for a hobby item thst could lead to many play sessions of enjoyment, here is how much lunch is going for in these parts these days (and neighborhood sandwhich shops in Southwest Ohio ain't the Rtiz-Carlton):

TSR On the Relative Merits of the TSR Editions

Haven't read past the first post, but B/X was the most popular edition until 5E came along. That's why it gets all the OSR attention. Speaking as somwone who started with 3.c in College (not really wither 3E ir 3.5, sort of a mix) having gone back and experienced older editions later: every TSR...

D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light Released on D&D Beyond

Nothing. They go digital only, that's their problem. For market value, $15 seems fair for the content given the economy of scale for a smaller product, and $25 for a physical book would makd sense historically (and Beyond is deaigned to not undercut thw book prices for WotC side). But I won't...

Yeah, but they won't. And PDF is not a format that I would buy, either.
