    Golden Ages of Gaming

For me it was when I was with my first group and playing a game I love for the first time. There was a sense of wonder and excitement I just don't have anymore.

    Golden Ages of Gaming

Oh, I very much wish WotC was far less of a guiding lodestone in the industry. I just don't think there's anything to be done about it, and complaining, (as I've learned from personal experience) just leads people to put you on ignore and ban you from internet forums.

But they also have all the connections and all the marketing money. No one can compete with them, so maybe it's better just to discount WotC and D&D entirely beyond their inspirational role.

    Your Three Desert Island RPGs

Assuming I get to have the entire game and not just the corebook, it is in no particular order: Level Up, for the modern fantasy experience. Shadowdark, for the old school fantasy experience. Stars Without Number, for the science fiction experience. Lots of stuff right under these...

    Golden Ages of Gaming

I feel I can't agree with this until you define what Main Street needs to do to "do well" in your estimation. Make as much money as WotC? IMO that's an impossible standard unless WotC takes a major hit in popularly/sales. There are plenty of successful non-WotC games out there right now, they...

Level Up (A5E) Removing Pointless Death (+)

If both are true it would be pretty intense from my perspective. "My PC cannot die unless I say so, and I will if you, the evil GM, allow any long-term harm to befall them". Honestly that's not a game I want to run.

Level Up (A5E) Removing Pointless Death (+)

I feel like long-term/indefinite injuries and conditions can work, provided some way to fix them is potentially available, even if special and/or expensive resources have to be gathered for it. Otherwise, if you're right, it seems you are saying that a player would rather have their PC die than...

That can work, provided they want to play something more narrative in the first place.

So what's the deal with solo gaming?

I have that book. Really interesting! I need to try it sometime.

    Golden Ages of Gaming

For me there are two: the period from 1989 to about 2000 or so, when the bulk of the game I have the fondest memories of flourished (AD&D 2e, Cyberpunk 2020, Marvel Superheroes, L5R, Deadlands, among others), and now, when so many great alternatives to WotC 5e exist.

Level Up (A5E) Removing Pointless Death (+)

Yeah. I've had a few close calls and one PC death recently, but I've never had a TPK since I started playing A5e. My players handle themselves pretty well.

Did the other DM also have a problem with TPKs?

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

That's too bad. I love 2e. Best version of the game IMO.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

Very much so. Easy for me though. The only person likely to keep with what's new in WHRPGs (or RPGs in general) is me.

Do you think they'll assume everyone will switch over once the new staff's out? That happens sometimes.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

Not me. Bring on more content! I had a ton of fun with WHFRPG 1e and 2e. Had a bunch of books for 2e in particular back in the day.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

I would be interested in a reissue of 1e. Don't have a physical copy of that game.

Bad luck. Did the paladin not see what happened to the rogue? Seems they could have potentially waited for the rogue to do their thing before walking in.

When Is a RPG "Complete" From a Publishing Perspective?

A game is done by default whenever they stop making it, but generally I'll keep buying a game I like so long as it is recognizably the same game (or can become so with a little work). L5R is a good example. I bought everything for that game from 1e to 2e, d20 (still based on a game I liked)...
