D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Of course. I mean equality in how these games and varying playstyles and rulesets are discussed, not in what they are and how well they accomplish any specific goal any specific player wants from them.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

It should I agree, but saying so explicitly is IMO less likely to engender conflict and anger.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

From my perspective you were doing the same. The fact that the current game apparently leans more towards your preferences doesn't change that, or make those preferences more valid than mine. That's all I've ever had to say on the subject, but people keep telling me I'm demanding everyone play...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

Cool! How was your technobabble applied mechanically?

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Sure, but IMO it should be claimed subjectively, preferably explicitly so.

D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

Unless you're on any thread tagged with the word "D&D" in any context right? 😉

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Why should yours? Why can't multiple options be presented?

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I want my game to care about reasonable simulation more than PC vs PC balance. That is not the same as badly designed, and I won't accept that claim at all. Does "playing your character" mean the same thing to you as casting constant spells at all time? It doesn't to me. Like I said, that seems...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

Shame the scientific approach generally has no mechanical effect.

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

I would love to see wizards portrayed more like this, and have the mechanics back it up. You want a flavorful niche compared to other spellcasters? There it is.

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

I strongly disagree, because the difference between PCs and NPCs is functionally narrative and metagame (as in, outside the confines of the setting), and that has no bearing to me on what abilities should be allowed. Whether or not the creature in question has done what is needed to acquire the...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

I agree that presentation in general has been improved in RPGs. However, actual game mechanics are far more subjective, and I don't believe a general improvement can be claimed.

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

So long as either the PC or a commensurate NPC can conceivably acquire the same abilities, it's all good.

I imagine that book didn't get as much exposure as the PH.

Don't get me started on PC vs NPC abilities.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

You're accusing someone of being banal. That's your right, but it's hardly a compliment.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

By the time I played Final Fantasy I (the only one I've ever played), I had already been exposed to spellcasting as a concept and saw it as a variant, not the way spellcasters ought to be. Besides, I've always separated video games from TTRPGs and literature in my mind.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Sarcasm is hardly conducive to conversation. You're the one who made accusations.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I grew up on Lord of the Rings and Dragonlance. Continuous flashy magic is not what I associate with wizards.

D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

I don't need to keep changing the rules, but my goal is to model every aspect of the setting as closely as possible (within practical limits), and I enjoy tweaking things and looking for new mechanics that help me with that goal. Worldbuilding, simulation of said worlds, and putting mechanics to...
