D&D General 5.5 PHB Species Options

i realized i didn't actually vote before so...aasimar, dragonborn and human, i would've liked to of said one of my picks was halflings, i love halflings conceptually, but their design is just so...passive, at least with human i get to pick what passives i'm getting.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

i will admit, even within the sole confines of 5e's spell slots and levels i think there's surprising room for making different spellcasters feel mechanically different if they just had the guts to make anything that breaks the mould, look at warlock, fundamentally it doesn't really do anything...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

what franchise is this meant to be talking about? HP or DnD? if it's the former, see below, if it's the latter, there's no evidence anyone can't really become a wizard if they study enough, seeing as there's no initial INT bar to entry to becoming one (unlike multiclassing into it for some...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

i think the issue with gnomes is that they're 'too mundane,' halflings that is actually somewhat their niche, letting you be 'the ordinary one' in a genre where even humans are often stereotyped as bold and ambitious, but gnomes, while slightly magical are still tend to end up in the just...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

harry potter wizards, despite having certain families with more potent 'magical bloodlines' otherwise pretty much totally fall into the wizard position IMO, i think in alot of media outside of DnD the types of characters which most fit into the 'sorcerer' archetype don't actually deal with...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

basically you believe there should be magic school segregation between the casters, never shall there be a divine soul sorcerer, a trickery cleric of enchantment and illusion, or a druid of spirits and bone.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Similar yes, but not the same, the spark is gifted in a one-time interaction without ongoing terms or connection, it’s the difference between jumpstarting a stranger’s car engine and giving them a vehicle that they have to get refuelled and serviced specifically by you

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

I liked that post for its latter half about being able to pick primary ability score for your class, it is a shame ENworld doesn’t allow more nuance in its post reactions but I fear any system which did would be overly complicated.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

no, they're saying the books says some sorcerers start with literally no latent magical spark at all at birth, but before their first sorcerer level they attain that spark by being gifted or touched by some magical creature or phenomenon.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

okay, so what do you actually consider 'meat fat and flavour' in regards to mage archetypes and differentiating them? because when i just tried you said i was only "trying to preserve or make a difference between Wizards, Sorcerers, and Warlocks to justify their existence as classes"

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

i think i'd add ghostwise and lotusden subspecies to the halfling options personally, goblins i'd probably try make three subclasses? baseline goblin i'd give darkvision, nimble escape and fey ancestry, one sub i'd give pack tactics and an enhanced help action like a 'hobgoblin lite', the next...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

okay, but i feel confident in asserting that if half the main cast had been subject to turnover between each instalment then far less people would've been invested in either of those franchises, the individual characters matter as much as the banner they unite under, the secondary cast might...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

I feel like wizards need to take a step back towards being mechanical specialists, so you know fire magic, or abjuration, or summoning, kinda like the state alchemists of full metal alchemist, you can’t be the toolbox wizard in FMA because you NEED to know the appropriate formulae for what...

D&D 5E (2024) 5e GMs: Do/Have/Would You Start Above 1st Level? (Note: Cannot change your vote.)

i don't GM, but if i did there's no reason why i wouldn't start the game at a higher level when applicable to the group/scenario

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

i think it would be interesting for 6e to explore having the expectation that you will end up with multiple class' progressions (despite previously saying i'd like them to remove multiclassing, go harder or remove it, but commit), character progression goes up to lv30, each class progression...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

what's wrong with excuses to include different casting mechanics? i mean, i can see what they were going for, one class that represents breadth of knowledge and the ability to learn new techniques, one that has a focused thematic core while being flexible and potent within it's niche, and a...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

wasn't it determined in that thread that casters could consistently do like 80% of the damage of martials, often even with some extra control effects thrown in as secondary effects and it would be the least efficient use of their resources?

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Give martials healing surges again, just add a line that says in their four entries ‘whenever you expend a hit die from this class to recover your HP you restore the die’s maximum value or 1/4 of your max HP, whichever is more, in addition to your CON mod’ and just watch the self recovery...
