Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

To quote half a dozen professors at two different institutions I have attended: "One source is plagiarism. Three or more is research." A few have also said, "0 sources is ignorance." One said "No sources is fiction." (He was a practicing lawyer.) But even most fiction authors do research. And...

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

Judging by parish rosters and attendance, the common folk have been more religious since the 17th C than the leadership. It is only in the 19th C that we see significant non-participation in faith activities by the common folk. Including secular authorities imposing restrictions such as...

If you're relying upon wikipedia, you have bigger priority issues. Go read the US copyright circulars, or even decent law offices FAQs on it... US Intellectual Property Law: Board Game Designers Guide II 17 U.S. Code § 102 - Subject matter of copyright: In general (cite as 17 USC §102(b) as...

No scale creator can create an unbiased scale. Risus substitutes the ocassional die roll for the say-yes of improv. Not significantly different in rules weight. Actually a bit less, when I compare to my notes from Theater class.

How many were abused due to their love of D&D, RPGs, and related items when they were young?

Ask anyone who survived the process... I asked a couple former soldiers of the third reich. And lived through the era of D&D book burning in the US. The kids who didn't have to put theirs in themselves were much more likely to rebuy. But many fantasy classics got burned alongside... L Frank...

In the US, it's blackletter law (that is, explicit in the text of the law) that the rules of a game cannot be copyright protected. It is also blackletter that the explicit wording is only protected if it can be paraphrased, tho' that's a very rough summary of a MUCH longer passage. So...

    What's Your Price Limit?

My metric was, until recently, $1 per hour per person... as I got about an hour of enjoyment for $1 in the arcade playing the few games I was good at. Hang-on and Robotron 2084. Mind you, almost half of that time was standing in line, but watching others lose was fun, too. On Hang on with the...

Does Your Game Have Random Encounters?

My current game has no random encounters in core, but has some as setting elements. My typical game has significant numbers of random encounters. I like RE's when the system supports random encounters well.
