I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

I agree. Persistence hunting, as done by the San and !kung, isn't all that tiring to do. It requires skill with bow or spear, and the ability to WALK for about 2 hours. The trick is, it only works on certain prey... many deer and antelopes can only sprint a short bit, then must rest... and you...

Conditions work the same in all three of Vaesen, TFTL, and TFTF. the big difference is that TFTL lacks actual combat as a subsystem.

Humans are capable of procreation at age 12, relatively safe procreation at 16 with a typical 4-score and 10 for the eldest... 90 years. If an elf lives 300, that's 3 ⅓x, so 12 * 3.33 = 36+4 = 40, relatively safe at 53. If we use 55 as the safe breeder age, and 300 as the meadian age of death...

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

From my rather cynical viewpoint: They allow placing negative traits to see how they affect player behavior They allow benefits that are beyond known human limits They allow having a suitably morality-free killable foe. When the species is past the point of understandable motives, they make a...

The originator of the concept of Orcs, and introduced it into the world, grounded them in racist stereotypes... Mongols, to be specific... then later lamented that in a letter. Tolkien described Orcs thus "squat, broad, flat-nosed, sallow-skinned, with wide mouths and slant eyes: in fact...

So you're done with D&D but still want to play D&Dish fantasy...

Based upon the Alpha 1.1 rules,Tunnels & Trolls: A New Age is for those who want a traditional feel, with someon a dice pool with a few modernizations. The piles of Dice older editions have are much reduced, but my players were throwing 2 to 7 dice, routinely (much the same range as T&T 5th)...

    Alternatives to map-and-key

Non-geographic maps are a thing... usually for showing social groups within an investigation or plot/character/setting elements when writing. They're great in flowchart form for writing adventures Also, I've found that many dungeons I've designed can work just fine as point crawls/subway maps...

I don't think "Most", but it definitely is going to be a large chunk. I think a lot of the Modiphius 2d20 fans will like it, too. Some of my D&D 5E players are minis-on-map highly tactical; they're not unwilling to play DH, but It'll be printing rulers and using minimeeples and maps.

    Playing AS monsters?

Yes, using T&T's sibling, Monsters! Monsters! Since its 80% T&T (it omits 15%), it was largely a T&T feel, except for what was looted. And Kobolds are my Baby. And Vampire.

When you play in person, where do you play? (Poll)

I voted public, because that's the actual situation, but preferred is at a player's house; my house currently cannot support it. I have, however, played in vehicles, including public busses, back in the 80's... before a certain pastor revified the satanic panic over Rifts, Torg, and VTM...

Renegade Announces Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG

So the setting: I'm unfamiliar with it. What's the tech level? how much casting? How permanent is Magic's potential effects? How much magitech? How much steampunk (if any)? In re system: The core concept of their E20 are workable; their advancement rules were a pain. So little room for...

What are your thoughts on roll-under/roll-high mechanics?

Personally, I don't like either as much as I like "High but not over" (used in Pendragon, Jackals, and AD&D 2E Psionics). Ranking them, High but not over, high, low. But... the difference in preference twixt high vs low is tiny. Also noting: I asked fourth graders, 5th graders, and 6th graders...

So you're done with D&D but still want to play D&Dish fantasy...

yeah, that tends to be a make or break element for a notably sized subset of gamers, which is why I called it out; it's not a dealbreaker for everyone, but it is for enough that it needed to be called out.
