    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

There are saves in CP2020, but they're based upon distance down the HP track. Unlike CP 2013, which was a comparison of damage to body type, and resulting rolls. 2013 is more realistic, but also more a pain to run with anyone who plays D&D... as they whine about it being soooo lethal.

    Can you count?

Your block digits are going to be hell on dyslexics... 1/2/16 are the same shape in different mirrorings. 4/8 are mirrored. 5/10/20 are mirrored 7/11 are mirrored 13/14 are mirrored. 6/9 are mirrored It's set up perfectly to make math hard for dyslexics. I'll note that real world cultures...

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

A knife fight is often a messy form of mutual assured destruction. I've only thrice had to defend versus a knife - my response the first time was to rip a post from a chickenwire fence and break his arm. Second time, same idiot, I had a firearm; he self-disarmed. Third time, he surrendered soon...

    The Daggerheart Inspirational Thread [+]

It's well presented in DH, but it's used in several others; I think Sentinel Comics does it a bit better, but they're very congruent presentations. Several older Fate flavors have environmental aspects. (Diaspora comes immediately to mind.)

    Worlds of Design: Combat Methods

My experience is that sci-fi and supers tend to be much more even. Classic Traveller assumed most NPCs would be rolled up by the same methods as PCs. A partial exception was the random encounters, but the stat ranges are comparable to 2-3 term characters. MegaTraveller, SpaceMaster, Phoenix...

    The Daggerheart Inspirational Thread [+]

The ordering of GM moves from soft to hard is a great tool for thinking about how to react to various player moves. I think the bottom few should be fear spends.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I found it more like `11 of 12, most of which (7-8) were showing "how the world reacts". An interesting idea - probably should have been an option... But I've not had any shortage of things to spend fear on.

The Tier 1 Solo "Construct", 5 balance points, was major damage to the 3 PCs of Tier 1, last sunday. It didn't need backup, especially with 2 spotlights in a row as a 1 fear cost. It could have gone either way... save for the fact that I rolled a number of 1's for damage.

Draw Steel: Fake variety helps no one

They are ALL metacurrencies, unless they're tied to some in-fiction item being expended. Resources are a subset of metacurrencies.

Draw Steel: Fake variety helps no one

Yeah, it (Daggerheart) has 4 metacurrencies in frequent universal use: Hope, Fear, HP, Stress. Two of those are damage tracks (HP, Stress, but stress is also a trigger for many abilities). the other two (Hope/Fear) are player/GM mirror for powering special abilities. Several of its classes have...

Draw Steel: Fake variety helps no one

Wictionary offers this: Which puts hit points into it, as well as XP. Fate points, D&D 5e Inspiration. It also puts many class mechanics into being metacurrencies. If it's X per Y, but has no material, somatic, or verbal component in fiction, it's a metacurrency. Many ignore 1/scene or...

Draw Steel: Fake variety helps no one

Most games with metacurrency have multiple... Then again, XP/AP are metacurrency, even tho' most don't think of it as such. HP also are on the border of metacurrency, especially when defined as AD&D did. 2d20 has momentum (PC)/Threat(GM), and a third, which varies by setting...

Stop Looking At Your Character Sheet

Classic Traveller is a common example of early RPG styles. The thing is, I've seen how Marc intended play to go, and it doesn't support "The answer isn't on your sheet"... nor "The answer is always on your sheet." But lots of people, quite erroneously, think it's one extreme or the other...

Stop Looking At Your Character Sheet

No, not "Oops!"... more like "Bazinga!" it's gotten egagment and discussion. To a very small segment, at that. Some of the most creative play I've seen was "How do I make this work for us here?" based upon an ability. e.g.: D&D 5e's Out of the Abyss, I had a player with an elemental monk...

    Daggerheart Kaiju Battles?

I don't like dragons as kaiju, myself, but they'd be doable. My preferred dragons are Pterodraconis sapiens, from Castle Falkenstein, second choice being the Earthsea ones. But my players seem to prefer The Hobbit's Smaug. And I'll note that Earthsea's dragons are frightfully dangerous...

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

The commentary implied that it was a weapon of last resort, and the Deutches Polezei (sp?) typically shot in the face, rather than center of mass. A one shot kill is often a one-shot stop. And the thinnest parts of the skull are the eye sockets...
