D&D General Dnd and what has changed

you can ask, but all we have is speculation I assume. I know that is all I have, so consider that when reading my answer ;) I assume it is because OSRIC was the original first retroclone, that showed that it can be done and kicked off all the other retroclones. That spot earned it a place in...

D&D General Dnd and what has changed

which is a poor substitute for a retroclone. I assume it is that the PDFs can easily be bought and PF1 functioned as that retroclone for most of the time there was major interest in one. same, the only one I am aware of, I’d certainly be more interested in a modernized 2e than any of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Cthulhu Mythos by Petersen Games. Why is it no longer on drivethrurpg?

Petersen Games itself seems kinda defunct right now, they might even have sold the rights, things are somewhat unclear. There were a few posts about this maybe 1 or 2 months ago EDIT: in this thread...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Well, let's hope for the best... it has been a rocky ride so far, so not sure I should count the chickens just yet

D&D General Dnd and what has changed

I agree for BX and 1e, but 2e and 3e retroclones? At best few and far between from what I have seen

D&D General The Beautiful Mess of 5e

give them plenty of wands, they can ‘cast’ two fireballs per round, so consistently do double the damage of a wizard with the right equipment

D&D General The Beautiful Mess of 5e

such as 6-8 encounters per long rest and 2 short rests between long ones? I think a lot can be done via such guidelines, encounter building, rests, treasure per level, etc. Some of it obviously has to come from decent game balance, that is the prerequisite for the guidelines to exist should be...

When Is a RPG "Complete" From a Publishing Perspective?

As long as they release things I am interested in, I’ll take a look, but I am not buying everything just because it exists (‘as long as a game I like publishes, I will buy’ sounds pretty close to that) Ideally there are some adventures and campaigns available, I am less interested in more rules...

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

In that case I prefer a 5th edition over a 40th anniversary print of an unchanged rulebook. At least there is some consolidation and updates that way

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

calling it 40th anniversary is no different than calling it 5th edition, see D&D I certainly welcome a consolidation of rule-sprawl from various supplements into a new core book. I hate it when I have a core book and then five or so supplements with additional rules and alternative rules. One...

D&D General Settings of Hope vs Settings of Despair

I prefer what you call Hope, the closest to Despair is how bad to overwhelming the odds are and where your starting point is, e.g. is Sauron merely trying to conquer Middle Earth or has Gondor fallen 20 years or so ago and the people make a last stand to turn the tide. The efforts are never...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

but it doesn’t, you are not spending your first round casting it already, you do something else, and in, say your third encounter, you have enough points to cast it in round one Yes, it is a gamist element in that it was designed to achieve a specific result in the game mechanics, that does not...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

well, the Fighter does not get much else, while the Wizard keeps up for free and then has their spells on top. Before there at least was some attempt at balance

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

what about the Death Domain Cleric then? To me they are in the DMG because the DM can decide to not allow them as they are villain class options (per their header).

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

most people do in fact grow out of D&D. You can of course keep playing, the current version is supposed to be what teens want however. You can enjoy it despite that, or play something else. You can even keep playing the version you played as a teen
