D&D General The Greyhawk Pantheon: How Greyhawk Approaches Deities (& Demigods)

They are complementary volumes. The Primal Order talks about the mechanics of divinity; what makes divinity, relationships between power levels, changes in state, what it costs a divinity to provide miracles, artifacts, and demi-planes, &c. Book of the Righteous talks about myths...

Seven Views of Mount Cannoli: Subjective Preferences in Geek Media

I don't know that I've ever had cannoli. I'll have to try it sometime.

    D&D 5E (2024) Bastions in the 2024 DMs Guide

Well, no. Personally, the DM's job is to create a milieu and scenarios that lets the players have fun. This is what is fun for the DM. Now, "fun" is defined for me, in this context, "an enjoyable evening spent with friends". Enjoyment can come from many routes: comedy, tragedy, drama, mystery...

D&D General The Greyhawk Pantheon: How Greyhawk Approaches Deities (& Demigods)

It helps that Prof. Barker is deceased, in this matter. However, I greatly miss the Greyhawk folio that I have repeatedly owned and sold over the years. While I don't always buy the books in a line, I have purchased the main three of each edition. If only to see changes, they can be a great...

D&D General The Greyhawk Pantheon: How Greyhawk Approaches Deities (& Demigods)

WotC never had rights to Tekumel. TSR had publishing rights for a time, and after a handful of print runs they reverted to Prof. Barker. Then the deal was made with Gamescience (?) where the, IMO, the most complete edition was published.

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+]

I only had two used. I made 8 of them, 5 level, five for martials and three for casters. I did something similar; Necromancy/Conjuration, Evocation/Divination, Illusion/Transmutation. Filled out from there.

Mostly to see what you do to inform further refinement of what I do. I have three active guilds. They have limited curated spell lists and a special ability at fifth level. There are some "lost traditions" that PCs can learn from using feats. I think I mentioned those in a different thread. In...

Cleric, please. Do you have wizard's guilds? I see where you are going with the magician sub-classes, but was wondering if there were organizations for casters.

    D&D 5E (2024) Suggestions for level 1 one-shot.

I've found that mobile characters are more fun, for me, than heavy hitters. However, both is good if it can be done.

Everyone laughs as Havar Talespinner finishes his story about the three paladins at the dryad's soiree. The crowd outside the Silver Eel tavern breaks up as the crippled man finishes the last of his ale. He looks around at those remaining and rattles his offering bowl. "Anyone else willing to...

D&D 5E (2024) Do players really want balance?

Well, in order to have a useful design goal of "approachable by a wide audience" you need to define those things and detail how you're going about doing that. For a more personal example, it's not good enough to say "improve outcomes in people with addiction issues at risk of endocarditis." How...

D&D 5E (2024) Do players really want balance?

Oh, I know a fair bit about it. There's a limit as to how much effort I'll spend arguing a gaming point, however. ;)

I didn't develop the study. If you can produce a refuting study, rock on. (Not that I expect you to. ;) )

The point is evidence exists that addition is easier than subtraction. ;)

D&D 5E (2024) Do players really want balance?

Actually, there is... Just looking at the aspect of having all bonuses being additive is, in fact*, an objective improvement. It is easier for the human mind to add than subtract. Now, the difference in effort could be trivial in most cases. However, it has been shown that a series of additions...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

Choose from; in my campaign a wizard usually starts knowing 3 first level spells from a tradition list of 12 specific spells, plus prestidigitation or thaumaturgy as a cantrip. When second level spells become available, there are a specific 12 that they will have access to. They can research...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

That's why I limit wizards to 12 spells depending on guild, clerics 9 per temple. Adds to theme and reduces decision paralysis.
