Do you use "voice acting" when you play?

At one point, I contemplated “doing voices” for AI/robotic/cybernetic/power armor etc. PCs & NPCs using some tech I had on hand from my guitar-playing hobby. Namely, I have: A TEAC microphone from the 1970s A Korg Pandora Px4 or Px5 portable digital modeler A battery operated desktop-sized...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Cast irony, in all likelihood. Tangentially: just remember that just because it’s the pot calling the kettle black, it does not follow that the kettle isn’t black.

Do you use "voice acting" when you play?

Recently saw this done in an episode of Grantchester. A character who was actually British had adopted a foreign accent to seem more exotic. The accent got dropped in the interrogation room.

Do you use "voice acting" when you play?

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes it’s fun, sometimes burdensome. I was in a whimsical mood DMing one campaign, in which someone Awakened a large lizard, and…I used an Elvis impression for its voice. The group never tired of it.

Fantasy Stories That Don’t Romanticise the Past

Harry Turtledove’s Darkness novels are in all ways a fantasy version of WWII, down to some pretty esoteric details. (His day job is as a history professor.)

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I was just thinking if Zeno were alive today, his favorite lyric in all of rock & roll would be from Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer”: Whoa, we're half way there…

How Do You Like Your Steak?

I used to like Ranch, but after a few years of ubiquity, I almost entirely stopped eating it. Now, it’s only a dip for things like fried appetizers (mushrooms, zucchini, onions). Sorry, I take a Germanic approach and eat it like schnitzel. Specifically, with a brown or mushroom gravy, and...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Not to intentionally flatter you, but… Sometimes, it’s about the attractiveness of the salesperson. “Car show girls” exist for a reason. In my own life, my paternal grandfather- peeved by my preferentially casual wardrobe- once took me shopping for dress shirts at Maison Blanche in NOLA. (I...

Your top 5 sci-fi movies (and why)

IMHO, most sci fi films- including many mentioned in this thread- could be described as being “flimsy” or sci-fi in name only. That doesn’t disqualify them for me. YMMV.🤷🏾‍♂️

Your top 5 sci-fi movies (and why)

Re: Godzilla Since the people who made the film explicitly stated that Gojira was an ancient creature mutated by radiation, prodded to rampage by the hydrogen bomb’s effects, and directly referenced real world events like the radioactive poisoning of the fishing boat Lucky Dragon #5 (shortly...

Your top 5 sci-fi movies (and why)

There’s too many already listed in this thread that would be contenders on my list, and some I’ve not seen mentioned. Sooooo I’m…not gonna even try.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Rick Wakeman (famously of Yes) was a classically trained pianist, and often slipped snippets of classical music into his solos or did homages in his writing. He did an aloof classical variations, but I think it was played mostly on piano. OTOH, Jon Lord (Deep Purple’s keyboardist) also drew...

How Do You Like Your Steak?

Regarding steak cuts not prepared as steaks: There was a place in Austin called McKlesky’s (sp?), and they made the best steak sandwiches I’ve ever had. They used whole, thin-cut ribeyes, and marinated them overnight in red wine. That place became our game group’s go-to as soon as we...
