Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

As an aside, this is how the Dark Sun wiki describes Rajaat: "Unlike his fellow Pyreen, who were all angelic of visage and straight of limb, Rajaat was a twisted, ugly lump of a creature who caused great disgust by his mere presence. The reactions to his twisted body soon caused his mind to...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Fair enough! I'd never even heard of them until the other day, when I googled Rajaat. Someone else upthread said they were essentially aasimar. I see no reason why we couldn't have aasimar who are nature spirit-themed rather than heavenly spirit-themed.

I get your overall point, but in terms of aasimar specifically, aren't they essentially what the Pyreen were? Are they meant to have all died out (except for Rajaat)?

I've never seen Sunshine, but man did Event Horizon freak me out when I saw it at the tender age of 16! One of the only movies that's ever done that to me. I think it was all the not-quite-subliminal imagery.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

As an aside, I'm curious to know how many people in this thread are unfamiliar with the unique format that Dark Sun adventures came in:

Yeah the planet is big enough for there to be more dragons but Rajaat and his surviving champions are all located one teeny tiny corner of that planet.

Apparently the other dragon, Farcluun, is in the 1993 adventure, Black Flames. Abelach-Re kills her. But Wikipedia describes Abelach-Re as a dragon as well, so maybe that’s wrong? Black Flames - Wikipedia

Yes, but I’m not a random peasant living on Athas. I know his name is Borys and it kinda ruins the mystique a bit. Also, I was looking up DS lore the other day and saw something about one of the sorcerer-kings killing a different dragon. I didn’t know there were any others!

I always thought it was a bit goofy that the Dragon’s name is Borys.

OK. I guess it just felt more respectful to me compared to its predecessors. It was nice to see they filmed on location in Japan using Japanese actors. Yes, Bond "turning Japanese" was weird, but at least it was done intentionally as a disguise, unlike say when they cast white Canadian-American...

They killed him but then he became an undead lich-dragon thing (not a dracolich).

Rajaat wasn’t a halfling himself. He was a Pyreen – a sort of angelic being, except he was an extraordinarily ugly one, so the constant disgust and prejudice the lesser races gave him drove him to bitterness and evil. He thought the halflings were the best because they were Athas’ original...

One point of difference is that the full HP series got translated into movies, which then had a spin-off prequel series and computer games and so on. The Ender's Game series got one movie, which wasn't all that well-received, and its sequels are pretty much unfilmable,* so there wasn't really...
