    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Or it is a way of simply not actually integrating Goliaths into the setting. These FR books gave WotC an opportunity to make FR a fully current D&D setting snd it sounds like they squandered it. So not only do you not have a new setting, you don't have an old setting that actually reflects D&D...

Between this thread and the high level adventure thread i started, I want to make some stuff happen just to prove it can be done.

D&D General XP: How Do You Like To Earn It?

I guess that is one of the inherent benefits of xp for gold or other concrete, non-combat rewards. If it is worthwhile for players to farm random encounters for xp, they will.

D&D General XP: How Do You Like To Earn It?

See, in those situations, the juice isn't (or shouldn't be) worth the squeeze. You spend all this time and energy and (most importantly) noise shooting bats and all you have done is gain 7 XP and given me multiple encounter rolls. Congrats?

Yeah, that is definitely a thing, especially with modern D&D and similar.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Just to be clear, I am not arguing that you can't integrate dragonborn or tie flings or goliaths or whatever into FR or Eberron. I am just saying it would be easier and cooler to just build a setting that fundamentally incorporates all those things. I get that people like FR. Great. Yay. But...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I wonder, is this phrasing a way to "incorporate" them without doing any actual work? Seems like it. Again, the benefit of a setting written for the new core is that you don't have to do any of that. You can just create a world that accommodates and truly integrates all the core species and...

Nope, you're right, I scanned too quickly. Sorry about that. My only complaint in the original was that it did not mention it the first time, which can be troublesome.

If you are hand waving it, just be honest and level them by fiat. But this thread is about your preferences as a player.

This continues the mistake of not being clear about whether contact with a single Madoi awakens them all or just the one touched. Clarity is paramount in trap rooms.

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's Write A High Level Adventure

I don't necessarily disagree, but I find it revealing that no one has actually engaged with the idea of actually breaking down what 16th level character can do in order to examine how one might design encounters that engage those abilities. All we have gotten is people complaining about how it...

What do you mean by this? I don't understand mixing milestone xp and individual awards. Isn't the point of milestone XP that everyone levels simultaneously?

    Shadowdark Shadowdark Organized Play?

Tangentially related: a regional con I am involved with is doing an honest to goodness tournament game using Shadowdark in the spring. I am super excited.

D&D General XP: How Do You Like To Earn It?

I really like the individual xp awards based on class from 2E. I mean, if I am being honest, I love most things about 2E. I just can't get anyone to play it.

I think fiat is required for the GM to control pacing.

D&D General XP: How Do You Like To Earn It?

Well, as a player, I don't want "chapters" and I don't expect pacing to be the purview of the GM (outside of things like con events). Player agency is key, and so as a player I want to know or be able to find out where the risks and rewards are, and decide with my fellow players what we are...

That must have an interesting knock on effect where certain kinds of players might self-nerf to make the encounters harder.

I like these a lot. One little note, just because it bugged me: "They will wake and attack if touched" should read "They will all wake and attack if any of them are touched." I know the "Crowded" entry makes it clear, but I almost missed it on first read. I also like how this layout leaves a...
