    D&D General What's your view on a pirate-driven campaign?

Have the PCs essentially be the Marines on the ship. The Captain is driving but the PCs are shooting arrows, manning ballistae and catapults or working on the rigging, until you close and then it is grappling hooks, boarding planks and a massive melee. There are a couple ways to make this work...

    D&D General What's your view on a pirate-driven campaign?

Call from the deep is a really good nautical adventure.

    D&D 5E (2024) Rank 5e skills from most useful (1) to least useful (18)

In 2024 it is usually a Slight of Hand Check. Having proficiency in Thieves Tools gives you proficiency on the Slight of Hand check and having proficiency in both the tool and the skill give you advantage.

It is in the rules and they don't need to be humanoids, they just need to have legs (for a rope) or be small or medium (for manacles) and be grappled or incapacitated. Yes, all the time. Pretty much any time anyone is either grappled or incapacitated from something like Stunning Strike or...

I totally get it ... but the rules are the rules. Not only is a Rope easier, it is more effective and less conditional.

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

The problem with low level troops in 3.5E is bounded accuracy and damage resistance. Creatures that were much lower level were no threat at all. It is one of the things I hated about 3.5E.

    D&D 5E (2014) "You Can Do 3 Things" - My Nephew's D&D Houserule

That is a really good way to simplify it, but to make it work you need to accept that people who don't get spells will be inferior, or else you need to make it substantially more complicated. I would be totally cool with it, but the people who demand that Fighters be as good as casters wouldn't be.

DC10 SOH check with a Rope or DC13 SOH with manacles to make an enemy restrained. This is new for 2024 and is extremely powerful in play.

The 5.5 rules have really changed this quite a bit IMO. Before 5.5 it was Perception, Stealth and Athletics and then everything else was well below these. Now they are much more balanced. Some of these are going to vary a ton depending on campaign and PC, but here is how I would put them...

D&D 5E (2024) Agonizing Blast-Green Flame Blade is pretty awesome in play

The reason I like this better than those in a 1-20 game is Warmagic at level 11 (Fighter 7/Warlock 4)

D&D 5E (2024) Agonizing Blast-Green Flame Blade is pretty awesome in play

I am playing a Tiefling currently Warlock 4/Fighter 2 in a game. I white boarded it before playing it and it seemed like it would work, and it has proven better than expected. The campaign is going to go to 20 and she will end a Warlock 4/Eldritch Knight 12/Bard 4 She is sword and board...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

Ok so you started by talking about Bless and how it only changes one attack in 8 and a Cleric was better using a Cantrip or attacking. I didn't think that is true and illustrated why with numbers, now it seems you don't either since you are saying Bless is a good spell. The real thing I...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Echo Knight, Psi Warrior and Rune Knight are pretty darn supernatural without spells.

Because comparing Bless against Spirit Guardians or Gaurdian of Faith is kind of irrelevant. Your hypothesis implies is Bless is a waste, a waste of an action and a waste of resources. Comparing it to a high level spell is not much value. Are we going to say Hold Person or Fear is a useless...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Hunters Mark is a terrible spell and anyone can get it through a Feat (although anyone who wanted something like this would probably pick Hex instead). Conjure volley is ok, but it is pretty much just a Force-damage upcast Fireball. Divine Smite is the only one of those that a caster-Gish...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

I only had one group that did that, and it actually benefits the fighter a lot more than a Bladesinger because it gets more attacks.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

They are pretty great if you build them for using weapons. Truestrike substantially increases their abilties in this regard and they are outdamaging Fighters at many levels. Shadowblade is one way, but not the only one, and not a spell that is their best IME. What they don't have is...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

The issue with this is the Bladesinger is already a better Warrior than a pure Fighter at many levels. So I don't see how you make a half caster that is less of a Warrior than a Fighter and is not overshadowed in every way by a Bladesinger.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

At level 3-5 an Eldritch Knight is better at fighting with weapons than a Bladesinger. At level 6-10 a Bladesinger, built for fighting with weapons, is better than an Eldritch Knight. Above level 10 there are a ton of variables depending on who or what you are fighting, so there is not really...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

I think they do exist: Blink, Mirror Image, Shadow Blade, Shield, Hex (through a feat), blade cantrips, Truestrike, Tasha's Otherworldly Guise, Steel Wind Strike, Conjure Minor Elementals, Fire Shield, Fizban's Shield ..... You could also add Haste and Tensor's Transformation although those...
