    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

It is weak if you want to melee and it is the equivalent of picking an Eldritch Knight background that does not boost strength and then Fighting with a Strength weapon. We are talking about a melee character here, Dexterity is their primary ability for that. No it is not. It is a weak choice...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

You don't use the Magic action at all. With those subclasses, you use the attack action and their subclass specific version of Extra Attack. Action Surge does not prevent you from casting spells, it just prevents you from using the Magic action. Action Surge: "On your turn, you can take one...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

A 6th level Bladesinger, 6th level Valor Bard or a 7th level Eldritch Knight can cast Booming Blade using the Attack action. So it works with Action Surge if you have one of those three subclasses (assuming you got it from somewhere else on the Bard).

    D&D 5E (2024) Shillelagh Eldritch Knight+Hex Post Lorwyn

You can use Shillelagh with Green Flame Blade and work it off of Wisdom.

    D&D 5E (2024) Shillelagh Eldritch Knight+Hex Post Lorwyn

EK doesn't really have enough spell slots to be an effective caster. Usually when I play an EK I am dumping Intelligence and maxing Charisma and using my EK slots to fuel Charisma spells I get on a multiclass dip or through feats. Wisdom works too and so does Intelligence. I like Charisma for...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

Are you building to be a good caster or a good melee character? If you want to be good at melee, my recommendation is Dex and Intelligence, but if you want to choose between the two Dexterity is clearly the better of the two. Here are the resons why: Dexterity adds to AC all the time...

But this can't compete with spells throught the day. Shadowblade for example will routinely give advantage (as will Vex) A level 7 Paladin does not have 3rd level spells

I would say if you use all your feats and spells for this you are a top tier martial.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

It depends how you define good at melee. Bladesingers can be extremely good at some melee roles. I don't think there is a better platform to build a tank from in the 3-10 level range. If purpose-built for it, they can be better tanks than Bear Barbarians at most of those levels, and better...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

I didn't really say it was bad at dealing damage, I said if you want to be competitive with a Fighter in terms of being a top tier martial you need to use your Feats and Spells for this purpose. You can do this though and if you do it you will be a very good martial, perhaps not quite as much...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

No you can draw or stow a weapon with every attack you take with the attack action. Here is the text: Equipping and Unequipping Weapons. You can either equip or unequip one weapon when you make an attack as part of this action. So you have your "offhand" weapon in hand. Let's say it is a...

    D&D 5E (2024) Shillelagh Eldritch Knight+Hex Post Lorwyn

It seems pretty solid to me. With Magic Initiate you can put Shillelagh on any ability, it does not need to be Wisdom and if you are getting Truestrike from Fighter you want it to be Intelligence. The difficulty is Shillelagh and the minute duration and eating up a Bonus action. One way to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

You are really gimped if you do this because you can only use Intelligence while in Bladesong, this makes Dexterity a better choice than Intelligence if you are playing a melee-focused character. If you want magic initiate and Con then Guide is the way to go, giving you Con, Dex and Shillelagh...

A Bladesinger can use a weapon as a focus.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

That is a bit off though. First a Bladesinger is typically going to have a 16 dexterity to start, that is way more benificial than Constitution. The EK has 6 spell slots (4x1+2x2). If you compare this to a Baldesinger, the Bladesinger has 11 slots. If you want to zero baseline it and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

It depends on how you play, but also on the situation. A high level fighter is a force to be reconned with and a fighter losing an action is a big deal. I'm not saying it is bad, I am just saying you can't say that because a Bladesinger can use CME, that doesn't automatically means they are...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

CME doesn't help that much because of the action to cast. It is the kind of spell I am talking about, but it is a lot better on a Fighter multiclass with Action Surge

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

When I play Fighters I almost always play an Eldritch Knight and I usually have an 8 Intelligence on point buy. A single class Eldritch Knight is never going to be a good caster because they don't have enough spell slots, if I want a casting Gish with a Fighter platform I will multiclass into...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

A PC with a 1-level dip in fighter is a fighter. If your argument is a multiclass character can outperform a single class character at a certain specific predefined level or level range - I agree this is almost always true, but that is different than saying Bladesinger invalidates an Eldritch...
