Lord of the Rings Roleplaying 5E

I wonder if some of the older 5e LOTR adventures would serve as better intro, if Star of the Mist was simply "adequate."

TSR Blast from the Past- How to Go Full Monty Haul in AD&D

I started with AD&D, we never played with destroyable worn items.. I do sometimes think that magic items being less "permanent" would be a boon to mixing up PC "builds" in 5e. The only reason a PC is parted from a magic item now is if they've found something better, or if you can somehow...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

This is one of the things I like so much about many (not all) DCC adventures- they're so easy to run straight from the book without any prep. I've run some of them without more than a cursory look beforehand. Check out Tome of Adventure Vol 1.

Paizo Inc. Names Industry Veteran Christian Moore as First Chief Growth Officer

I assume it means looking for ways to spread into new markets, and appeal to new sections of consumers that previously had no interest in your product/didn't know your product existed.

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

Ah, I see your confusion- one of them is a year, comet. The others are 3 days. Comet used to level you- now it gives advantage on death saving throws for a year. Fool used to lose you a bunch of XP- now it gives you disadvantage on d20s for 3 days. Jester used to give you a bunch of XP- now it...

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

Wow I just looked them up- there are some heavy nerfs to the Deck in 5e24, both benefits and detriments!

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

I ran a 5e West Marches game for some years, it worked pretty well there as well as long as everyone was within 3 or 4 levels. But for regular games, I tend to keep everyone on the same XP track. The only thing that throws that off are magic items that grant XP, like Deck of Many Things and a...

    What's Your Price Limit?

Yup- if I'm lucky I'll think to pull some shelfware down rarely and give it a read-through... but more often they just sit on the shelf waiting to be read- some day. Definitely some day. Soon. The only TTRPG stuff that my group "went in on" was DnDBeyond content, the legendary bundle back in...

D&D 5E (2024) Next issue of Game Informer will have details on the two upcoming Forgotten Realms books

Oh right, these are the books that're supposed to have Circle Casting rules in them, yeah? I'll be interested to see what they do with them.

    What's Your Price Limit?

For the amount that you pay for them, you get a massive value in play. Of course that assumes that you're actually making use of them, and not buying them because they're interesting and you're sure that one day soon you'll get around to using them properly, but not just this moment.. and then...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

I'd agree with you. Buuut I imagine that the idea is to pitch to players as much as possible- for that, you want them to picture themselves playing characters in the game... it's the "OC" appeal. It's about the player character, not the world they happen to be in.

D&D General D&D Releases New Japanese Campaign 'Oni’s Right Hand'

When you say "these books" are you referring to these new ones? Cuz I'm sure they do! Good :) When I said "past books" I was referring to stuff like Oriental Adventures plus older, TSR-era content.

D&D General D&D Releases New Japanese Campaign 'Oni’s Right Hand'

Ofc I guess it depends on what the market actually wants... They might enjoy western fantasy since it's DnD 🤷‍♂️ past versions of "eastern" stuff hasn't been too... sensitive?

    What is adventuring?

I think danger is important. It doesn't require combat, but suspense, the threat of discovery and possibly combat, or just dangling off a cliff edge, that's integral. Discovering strange new places, yeah- and finding treasure.

D&D General D&D Releases New Japanese Campaign 'Oni’s Right Hand'

Characters from Kara-tur, but it's set in Phandalin. I know Phandelver was a great starter adventure, but I feel like they need some new material.

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

I don't like AI art in general. I don't like people accusing real art of being AI art. I can sort of understand the confusion, after all AI art has snuck into WotC products previously... but you're really not helping the case when you accuse any piece of art that you don't like as being AI...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

I'd agree. That's not to say that I only like the oils, far from it, but I do think that oils tend to rank higher with me.

D&D General Belts of Giant Strength?

I'd agree, but some of my players wouldn't- because as characters get more features, items with interesting powers are less attractive and/or less predictable, and it's just more stuff to keep track of for them. This wasn't as much of a problem with 5e14 at release, but later additions and newer...
