D&D General The purpose of deity stats in D&D.

I don't know why they provided stats other than for potential fights with PC's, but at the very least, it provides some objective way to judge relative strength/power among deities. Should mortals even be able to fight deities? Don't get me started....

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

I say we should avoid giving Musk any free publicity, or taking much of what he says seriously.

    We’re On BlueSky

Just joined and following EN World. Paizo too. I never joined Twitter, so this is new. Blue Sky looks pretty chaotic and unstructured, unlike a forum. A lot of seemly random stuff. Here's hoping that BlueSky is able to maintain it's popularity, and grows large enough to become a viable...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I think Rule 0 should be defined at Session 0. If everyone at the table agrees to the rules at session 0, rule zero will come naturally.

D&D 5E (2024) What does the new DMG say about gods?

I'll just say I disagree with the 2024 DMG re: deities, and leave it at that. One thing that I like about 5E is that (with few exceptions) it doesn't give stat blocks to deities. While I did enjoy reading Deities and Demigods as a kid, IMO, gods should be several orders of magnitude in power...

WotC Some Takeaways From Hasbro's Latest Reports

"Hasbro's profit for this quarter was $223.2 million; the same period last year saw a $171.1 million loss." Well it looks like they're doing OK then. I'm surprised by the digital sales figure decrease. Since "digital is the future" in WoTC's own words, you would think that digital would have a...

D&D General How early is too early for flight?

IMO, as long as the monsters can fly, or at least easily target a flying pc, level isn't much of an issue.

Payn's Ponderings; System mastery and the concept of fair fight.

I like to min max to make an effective PC, but I don't obsess over it. A fair match is fine, but a GM should focus on the world and the story, and put "realistic" encounters where they "should" go. (e.g. put the lich on the bottom level and the giant rats on the 1st level) If the players find...

D&D 5E (2024) Do players really want balance?

Sure, no one wants to play a weak class and feel useless. Why is that controversial?

D&D 5E (2024) Do players really want balance?

The typical player doesn't really care about balance. They want to be superheroes with no risk of dying.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

I never said that I doubted his 30-40 person claim. I simply pointed out that a person in his position is likely to have many "friends" who want to play with him.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

I'm certain that he has at least 30-40 "friends" who want to play D&D with him for face-time and brown nosing. This isn't usual. When you have money power and influence, there is usually an ample supply of people willing to do whatever it takes to win your favor.
