I'm not sure I like the idea of being forced into a new era. It seems like an artificial way to give a boost to a player who may be falling behind the AI.

Regardless of whether D&D2024 deserves to succeed or not, it's the 800 pound gorilla in the industry and it can produce substandard adventures, rule book, etc with little consequence. It's unfortunate, but it's the reality of a business that dominates an industry. Complexity is personal taste...

Not needing to choose a patron until level 3 makes absolutely no sense to me. The whole defining characteristic of being a warlock is that you make a pact with an otherworldly being, or they make an involuntary pact with you. In some way or another, a connection between the PC and the patron...

No, I don't buy anything from Nestle. A corporation should be judged on it's own merits/lack thereof, not how it compares relative to other corporations.

As long as they can introduce classes that offer new play options, I don't see why there should be a limit. However, when the classes start overlapping each other and start feeling the same mechanically with just a splash of flavor, that's when they should stop, imo.

Late to the thread, but I've seen a number of comments that amount to: "They listen to the customer and reversed course, so what's the problem". The fact that they reversed course is a good thing, but that's a really low bar to judge them by. What people should be asking is WHY does WoTC do...

The solution is for WoTC to stop engaging in the behaviors/making the decisions that it has been doing. But since that's not going to happen...

Answered this some time ago, but since then, my most recent purchase was the PF Player Core 2 Remastered.

Ugh... I had high hopes for Section 31, but I get a DISCO vibe from the trailer. There area lot of good stories you can tell with the "original" section 31, it didn't need to be reimagined for modern audiences.

I don't think the books are a good indicator. The true test is if WoTC can cash in on it's plans to push D&D to virtual spaces, subscriptions, microtransactions, licensing, etc.

I use the digital dice available on whichever VTT I happen to be using. I haven't used physical dice since the start of COVID.

I was 12 or 13 in 1979 when I first started playing 1E, so I guess it depends on when you were born between 1965 and 1980.

GenX D&D looks mostly like 1E and 2E.
