There’s always a niche for crunchy games. The goal isn’t to do what everybody else is doing and struggle to stand out from the masses—it’s to do your own niche really well. Turning GURPS into Cypher/Savage Worlds/insert generic game of your choice would be a mistake. That market is saturated.

I guess they'd need to cut it down from 4 hours to a tight 45 minutes or so to fit in with streaming models. I assume there's a reason streaming services aren't full of TV shows with 4-hour episodes. Sure, the dedicated fanbase will watch 4-hour episodes, but the casual Netflix viewer won't...

But so does 'video game' which can mean anything from Pac Man to Call of Duty to Baldur's Gate 3. Or 'book' which can mean anything from the Bible to Dan Brown to Tolkien to A Brief History of Time.

While your sarcasm is admirable, I do think it is important to note that popularity is, indeed, not the same as good. They are two very different words with very different meanings.

While I think that's true, we have developed additional vocabulary over the years to deal with this. We talk about story games, crunchy games, solo games, rules-lite games, tactical games, and so on. I don't think there's really a problem; we're still able to make ourselves understood with ease.

I don’t even understand the question. Every bit of marketing is targeted at various demographics. That’s how marketing works. Clearly, that piece wasn’t for you.

It’s not even just that. It’s not just that the game has changed (which is has). Or kids have changed (which they have). It’s that the world has changed because that’s how time works. And the trope of middle aged men whining about kids today is old, old, old. And so tiresome.

Wait till you hear what the teenagers in 1925 liked!
