D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

That does a bit explain my position on it. As I am part of "the system", I can only really see the current D&D as being particularly important.if it is out of print, it might as well be Dead to Me. (Barring the occasional collection that comes in, but a "collectable" is a different thing than a...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

Interestingly (to me, at least) after making the statement (a few posts back now) that I have never heard anyone say "Five-five" (nor previously "Three-Five") but always with an obvious stress on the word "point", I just listened to a podcast where someone (it was either Mikes Mearls or Shea...

(5.24 PBP) Vault Redux (OOC) Fitz's Refresher

Bjorn's frog-tongue would work just as well as an octopus tentacle. But he can stick back and observe, too. BTW, everyone in Team Fusion should post for me an updated Status Line after a Short Rest, which you will all get.

I've never heard anyone say "five-five." The accent has been on the word "point" ever since "three-POINT-five". If anyone was really concerned with syllable-count, you'd think we'd get more on board with simply calling it "New" D&D.

(5.24 PBP) Vault Redux (OOC) Fitz's Refresher

Yeah. But I imagine that Team Infiltrate doesn't want to be subsumed and seem like the "lesser" of the two. Team Fusion might be best.

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

Yeah, everyone I talk to in real life (and remember, I own a game store, so I'm talking about even there) just calls it D&D. Sometimes, "the new books". I've certainly heard it be called "Five Point Five" aloud by a walk-in or two, but the speaker is clearly the kind of person who hangs out...

(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Team Lakefiltrate Terrin lifted the stone into place and used his magical training to mend it into its spot. Not only did he recognize the symbols that glowed on its newly-reformed surface, but he was shown a vision. In his minds eye, he stood on a great height - a flying platform made of...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

I feel ya. I don't actually find that. You can skip the 5e, or the 20, and call it 2024 or 5e24. I don't know how those are harder than 5.5, really. Inertia I understand (it's what I've been pointing out as the likely "real" answer as to why the term is advocated for.) Consistency, I don't...

(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Team Caves Urgan allowed Valendra to stand, holding her wrists and threatening her with violent retribution should she resist, while Merrick questioned her, Torhak took the lone remaining mercenary into custody, and Shamal recovered himself. Valendra answered, "I am not a member of the Cult of...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

Oh, I'm sure I've used 5.5 myself at various times. I'm not a fan of it, but in spite of appearances here, I'm not going to argue with everyone who wants to use it.

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

At the risk of starting this up again, when it was so beautifully concluded (honestly, sorry everyone). I feel like asking: For those that prefer to call the 2024 books "5.5" - what is wrong with, say, 5e24 (is it really just that one more keystroke!?). Are you sure that you're not just stuck...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

That's easily explained! Plenty of shop workers are exactly the kind of folk that hang out here and argue. It says something about that fellow, but nothing about the edition. Nor even the shop. Certainly not shops in general. Just one guy, and folks like him. And you. It is nowadays! Here...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

I've explained. Calling it that is being obsessed with a 20+ year old marketing gimmick. I am over that. Why is calling it 5.5 so important to you? (Also: This is at least the fourth time I've had this discussion. It's old. I know that I won't change your mind. You won't get me to think 5.5...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

That's not actually true. I guess everyone here knows what you mean, but regular people do not. I deal most often with "normies". And c'mon. Four keystrokes are harder than three? How silly.

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

My group, and my game store, calls it "D&D" and only if there is a danger of confusing anyone we call it the "new books" and only here do I call it 2024. I only rarely need to speak of it as 5e. My comment about 19th edition was mostly to point out how silly it is when people insist that it...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

That's part of my point: People who played 3.5 are fixated on the idea of half editions. Half editions are not a thing. It was a gimmick used ONCE, 20 years ago, for precisely one "edition", and part of the community won't let it go. They called 4e Essentials 4.5. They retconned the 2e Black...

(5.24 PBP) Vault Redux (OOC) Fitz's Refresher

Loklafd will ask: Once we have it, what then? Where do we go? And, will the rest of us wait here?

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

Because that's a fundamentally stupid name. I'd rather call it 19th Edition, which is, I think, what it actually is. (Edit: I'm not actually advocating for "19th Edition".)

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

No she isn't. She's from New Jersey. She's an American. Her family is from Pakistan. She was created by a Muslim-American and a Filipino-Canadian - not to be a "token" anything, but to represent someone that wasn't represented in comics.
