... That said, yes, you need people to not actively work against themselves learning new things. (Note: I am NOT saying that @GreyLord's group were doing that, at least, not on purpose. As I've tried to point out before: Mistakes happen.)

I make no assumptions about what people know and don't know when I teach people to play D&D - it's just soooo much easier to succeed that way!
