D&D General Who is this made for (Not Beginners) - the New D&D Starter Set

I literally have the book in front of me right now.

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

I played S&L as a kid in Canada, but I haven't seen it since then. My own kids never played it, but then again, I owned a Game Store before they were born, so they grew up with Formula De, Catan, and Carcassonne. We definitely don't do that here. I think that sounds cool, but I've never heard...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

Yeah, it's just that one of them literally mentioned Yahtzee. I assume that others played other games. I was honestly lucky (and smart, I suppose) to have on-hand these cheap Chessex sets that are color-coded. The d20 is white, the d4 is yellow, etc. So you can say "roll the blue one" instead...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

@JusticeArman I ran it this weekend at my Comic & Game Store. Many of the players had never before touched dice that weren't d6's from Yahtzee (or whatever). Age range varied from 9 to 60. They all enjoyed it, and a few bought their own copy to "keep going". I'd call that a big win!

(5.24 PBP) Vault Redux (OOC) Fitz's Refresher

Was that my fault for not putting the Team Infiltrate designation on the post? I sometimes wonder if its necessary for every little post, but if it IS, I will accept that I should be consistent.

Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: Heroes on the Borderlands Review

I agree. However, I also don't think that the adventure is bad. It's missing some useful things, yes. There are things that many of us enjoy (like a plot!) that it lacks, yes. However, it does what it does generally very well - it has a good set-up, it has a bunch of clever bits, it's...

Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: Heroes on the Borderlands Review

I also agree that the vagueness of much of the "story"* will be hard on new DMs. I'm what one might call a very experienced DM, and I was a little shocked by the raw number of questions that my (in some cases totally new) players asked that I had to make up the answer on-the-fly, because there...

D&D 5E (2024) Teos talks about using the hero’s of the Borderlands Starter Box to run games.

Thanks for the response! As the longtime owner of an FLGS, where I have run demo games since D&D was AD&D 2nd Edition, I understand too well the juggling act that is doing what you love while wanting to be generous, but also put food on the table, and not get taken advantage of. It can be...

Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: Heroes on the Borderlands Review

Looking forward to hearing how it goes! I had to have two sets at one point today to run it (live) for SEVEN players! That's more like $17.50 CAD, but yeah, not terrible.

Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: Heroes on the Borderlands Review

Thinking of you, and though I have an impression, I can't say that I "know" you at all, really, so correct me if I'm wrong: I think that, were you to buy this box set, you'd have use for: 1) The three Adventure books (these are flimsy pamphlets, but they pack a lot in there). 2) The NPC Cards...

D&D 5E (2024) Teos talks about using the hero’s of the Borderlands Starter Box to run games.

Makes sense. As a follow-up: All this had me sign up for the "free" part of a number of patreons. I'm not agianst paying for them, but I'm curious as to how much I'd actually take the time to read or watch their content. I've noticed that many of them (IDK if I'm specifically speaking of yours...

Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: Heroes on the Borderlands Review

Phandelver Starter was $20 USD or between 25 and 30 CAD depending on when we're talking about during the ~decade it was around. (Mostly $27). But this thing has a significantly increased cost of components. It probably wouldn't matter to YOU, Micah, because it's unlikely that you'd care much...

(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Stryke nodded to Terrin and said, "He may come to his senses, if he has any sense, and inform the others where we have gone." He put his hand on Copper's shoulder and said, "Join me in executing a thalak'vel - what you would call an ambush? If I can borrow a bow or at least a javelin or two?"

(5.24 PBP) Vault Redux (OOC) Fitz's Refresher

That will only work if you use the same basic tactic that he's using, but in reverse. Seeing as he is currently out-of-sight, you'll have to find a place to hide, wait for him to start following you again, and then shoot him and run for the next pace of cover. I'm not sure that there's any way...
