Love this post, but I'll add . . . IRL, your biology very much DOES have an impact on your personality, intelligence, aptitudes, etc, etc . . . it's the classic nature-vs-nurture argument. It's not one or the other, it's both, it's complicated, and we don't fully understand where nature leaves...

I've always seen "wood elf" and "high elf" as cultures, springing from Gygax's Greyhawk campaign (inspired by Tolkien). But since they been in the game practically from Day 1, they are the "generic" or "default" cultures for elves. Similar for the traditional dwarf and halfling options.

We'll have to disagree on the "landmine" nature of the drow story. But I'm betting WotC isn't going to go there. We'll see how it plays out.

Because they are the most popular companions in the game. The other companions are interesting characters also, but Asterion, Shadowheart, and Karlach have (moreso than the others) great backstories, good character interactions, fun banter, and then there is the sexy factor . . .

Yup! I'd watch a show adapting the Drizzt stories, but I'd much rather see new stories with new heroes . . . just like they did with Honor Among Thieves and Baldur's Gate 3. Although, in Baldur's Gate 3, we do get some nice cameos! I haven't finished the game yet, but I know Minsc and Boo show...

I've always felt that ancient Netheril wasn't a very interesting place to visit, should you stumble across a time-gate. Flying cities are cool, but overall if just felt like the ancient Realms that are pretty much the same as the modern Realms. This supplement doesn't change that, of course...

Just read through both the Astarion and the Netheril books last night on D&D Beyond. I'm cool with each product being $15, I think it's a reasonable price for the amount of content. I wouldn't complain if it was cheaper, but I think it's fair. I kinda want to roll up a dhampir character now!

Oh good lord. I highly doubt the delays are due to non-Americans being considered "second class citizens". The delays are more likely due to printing, shipping, or even tariffs. Delays happen. It sucks, but I have faith you'll be able to handle getting your books later.

DLC can be used in an anti-consumer manner, but isn't inherently so, I can agree to that. There are a lot of issues with digital content across media, for sure. It's just not all horrible and bad, IMO.
