D&D General 5E species with further choices and differences

Love this post, but I'll add . . . IRL, your biology very much DOES have an impact on your personality, intelligence, aptitudes, etc, etc . . . it's the classic nature-vs-nurture argument. It's not one or the other, it's both, it's complicated, and we don't fully understand where nature leaves...

D&D General 5E species with further choices and differences

I've always seen "wood elf" and "high elf" as cultures, springing from Gygax's Greyhawk campaign (inspired by Tolkien). But since they been in the game practically from Day 1, they are the "generic" or "default" cultures for elves. Similar for the traditional dwarf and halfling options.

Shawn Levy Provides Update on Netflix D&D Show

We'll have to disagree on the "landmine" nature of the drow story. But I'm betting WotC isn't going to go there. We'll see how it plays out.

Shawn Levy Provides Update on Netflix D&D Show

IMO, you can't do that. Well, you could, but it wouldn't work out very well. New D&D show starts up, with an African-American actor portraying the elf Drizzt. Someone in the media learns the backstory of Drizzt and the drow elves in D&D. Media funtime begins! To remove the embedded racist...

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

Because they are the most popular companions in the game. The other companions are interesting characters also, but Asterion, Shadowheart, and Karlach have (moreso than the others) great backstories, good character interactions, fun banter, and then there is the sexy factor . . .

Shawn Levy Provides Update on Netflix D&D Show

Honor Among Thieves didn't hit the level of profitability Hollywood wanted . . . but it was a successful film by any rational measures! It did fine in the cinema, especially considering it released just post-pandemic, and its been doing very well on streaming services.

Shawn Levy Provides Update on Netflix D&D Show

Yup! I'd watch a show adapting the Drizzt stories, but I'd much rather see new stories with new heroes . . . just like they did with Honor Among Thieves and Baldur's Gate 3. Although, in Baldur's Gate 3, we do get some nice cameos! I haven't finished the game yet, but I know Minsc and Boo show...

Shawn Levy Provides Update on Netflix D&D Show

Ah, the Drizzt-hate is strong in this thread, as it must be . . . (not because the Drizzt books are terrible, but because, well, cranky gamer-haters gotta hate) I mean, if you don't care for Salvatore's Legend of Drizzt stories, that's cool, of course. But to somehow pretend that your dislike...

Why? Just like Windows, Steam has iterated on their OS over the years. Do you have experience with their current OS that runs the Steam Deck?

    Netheril's Fall - First Impressions

I've always felt that ancient Netheril wasn't a very interesting place to visit, should you stumble across a time-gate. Flying cities are cool, but overall if just felt like the ancient Realms that are pretty much the same as the modern Realms. This supplement doesn't change that, of course...

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

Just read through both the Astarion and the Netheril books last night on D&D Beyond. I'm cool with each product being $15, I think it's a reasonable price for the amount of content. I wouldn't complain if it was cheaper, but I think it's fair. I kinda want to roll up a dhampir character now!

D&D General Why Elon Musk Needs Dungeons & Dragons to Be Racist

Yeah, but . . . A lot of this is coming from our current generation of oligarchs, who are pretty nerdy. I think their love of Tolkien and other fantasy/sci-fi is genuine, if prone to misinterpretation. There is a lot of ink written about how techbro oligarchs are using their favorite sci-fi...

D&D's Forgotten Realms Books Hit With Delays in Europe and Asia

I'll pushback on US companies considering the rest of the world "less important", it certainly isn't a case of "second class citizens". Do some companies FOCUS on their home markets? Yeah, sure. Why wouldn't they? Do some companies expand and try and focus more globally? Sure! But, do some of...

D&D's Forgotten Realms Books Hit With Delays in Europe and Asia

Oh good lord. I highly doubt the delays are due to non-Americans being considered "second class citizens". The delays are more likely due to printing, shipping, or even tariffs. Delays happen. It sucks, but I have faith you'll be able to handle getting your books later.

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

DLC can be used in an anti-consumer manner, but isn't inherently so, I can agree to that. There are a lot of issues with digital content across media, for sure. It's just not all horrible and bad, IMO.

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

I do think it's "digital or nothing" . . . in the sense of, WotC would not do these releases at all otherwise. It only makes financial sense for them to do them digital-only. They certainly COULD release this material in a print format . . . and if they felt it would make enough profit (or...
