D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

I'm not sure what the fighter at-will vs. fighter alpha is? It shouldn't be 4e with fighter at-will powers. I'm guessing alpha is the more optimized fighter over what they make modules for.

D&D General Whom has used the Egg of Coot?

Is the Egg of Coot a slight at Gygax. I mean is it E.G.G. of Coot towards Ernie G Gygax and calling him a coot. Coot is slang for a foolish or outdated person. Never thought of this before- and never really had a need to.

Which are you, The plan everything out GM, or the Ad lib?

I like to write things out most of the way for dungeons. I like to have some sense of why it is there and what monsters are inside, and how they interact. I find writing it down helps with new ideas on how the players might overcome things and I can plan for the most obvious. I know that a...

D&D's Beer Collaboration Continues With Special Edition Beer/Dice Tower Combo

The box the beer bottle comes in is the dice tower. I was hoping that the glass of beer had a built in dice tower so that your beer never was too far away. I see that I can get it in Massachusetts at least. The state doesn't let us have anything cool.

    RPG Evolution: You Stink

There is a lot of wandering monster checks that are just for combat. There is no reason to not spice it up some with the close roll but not not combat and have rodents get into your food or chew a hole in your pack. It might also be a bit of the game that is overlooked with the newer editions...

D&D General Oh Please give me some Happy Backgrounds!!

A lot depends on how the DM played things along the RPG developmental path. Did your wandering halflings keep having their family and village put in danger by the DM for 'plot reasons' or your wife held hostage so you are railroaded in going on this adventure? Eventually some players have all...

What rpg system would you use for a 60+ session fantasy campaign?

Some of the idea of a long campaign also depends on session length and not just on number of sessions. My group tends to just play for 2 hours so we have lots of sessions. We play 5e right now while we finish the current campaign and will use 5.5e when we start a new campaign. I'm not sure...

What rpg system would you use for a 60+ session fantasy campaign?

I tend to just play D&D, so I am already playing 60+ sessions campaigns with that system. It works and we are still having fun.

    3I/ATLAS

What a coincidence that a large object is heading for Earth and the government is 'shut down' preventing images and any knowledge of this getting out.

World of Design: Flipping the Hourglass

I guess most people are a mixture of the two ideas. I tried both and had varied degrees of success. I think if I was going to make something now, I might start with several big ideas and chart some ideas of how the map works, but then focus on the smaller area of the playing world. I find...

D&D General Beginning under the Dark Sun (How to approach the setting ?)

I would first be up front with them about the setting and see if they know anything or seen stuff online. It is a different setting and some people might not like it. I do not like it myself and would rather not play in that setting. Things might also depend on what edition of D&D you want...
