Have You Used The X Card Or Seen It Used In Person?

I've never seen it deployed in a public or private setting. I'm going to GameHole Con this October where I hope to play in a lot of horror games, so I'll keep on the look out for any of those safety tools.

Tips and Tricks to Running a Con Game

As far as content of the one shot goes, my suggestion is to keep it appropriate to the venue. I try to be mindful of content not just for my players but for anyone nearby who might be listening in. If the venue is in a game store where anyone including children might be able to hear me then...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I'd welcome the opportunity to play a character who was an enslaved person in Dark Sun. As other have pointed out, slavery wouldn't be like the chattel slavery practice in the Antebellum South of the United States until the 1860s. A PC might very well be a trusted slave sent out to perform...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

When you're building an army you kind of want a uniform appearance. I'm painting up the Rebel faction of Star Wars Legion, a game I purchased brand new in 2018 (I think), and when all the miniatures are on the table you typically want them to look like they belong together. I've painted a few...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Yeah. Sometimes changing things works out really well. Some people might still complain about that French upstart being added to the Arthurian stories, but who doesn't love him some Lancelot? But then other people tried to make Arthur some sort of modern gangster raised in a London...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Trying to please everyone is a fool's errand as some people are always going to be unhappy. As someone who was resigned to WotC avoiding Dark Sun like the plague for the next decade or so, I'm pleased to see it's likely to be a reality soon. I hope it's not as disappointing as Spelljammer...

Tips and Tricks to Running a Con Game

When I used to run Living Greyhawk adventures I ran into problems. Some players simply viewed me as a rubber stamp for gold, magic items, and experience points. I finally lost my patience and combined with 3.5 it drove me away from Living Greyhawk. Several of them even offered to purchase the...

Tips and Tricks to Running a Con Game

As much as I don't care for the X-Card myself, I understand why people might recommend it for a con. I think maybe we don't want this thread to turn into a discussion about the X-Card when it's supposed to be about advice on how to prepare a game for a con.

Finished a squad. The first Legion squad in about 3 years.

Tips and Tricks to Running a Con Game

I had stupid behavior ruin a GURPS Fantasy con game I was playing in a few years ago. On two separate occasions some players, and not the same ones both times, went of on pointless tangents that obviously had nothing to do with the scenario. As a result, we didn't finish the scenario within...

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 1

Speak for yourself! I've seen things you wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 1

Having secondary characters worked for Ars Magica and I can see it working for other games. It might not be a bad idea for some games I run where one or more player insists on making a character that's next to useless in a firefight.

    IN REMEMBRANCE--2025

Stamp was in a lot of great movies. I especially liked The Limey from 1999 where he plays an English criminal who journeys to the United States to investigate the death of his daughter.
