D&D General DIY xps foam terrain. Videos? Pics? Advice?

Here's something I am working on for my Sunday game - the party is travelling down a cliff face on a narrow path with numerous switch backs. This is the first time I have tried to create a mostly vertical battle scene. I still have a few things to finish up on this, but I have it at least...

D&D General What do you want in a game space?

Must haves: dice, pencils, paper, and rules. Things I have, don't really need, but sure enjoy having: A dedicated gaming room. Two large gaming tables. A ton of painted miniatures. A lot of terrain - Dwarven Forge, Hirst Arts, Miniature Building Authority, custom builds, etc. Six very...

    D&D 5E (2014) WizKids Announce Frameworks Custom Sprue-Based Minis

In a similar sense, I used to like the three stage characters Ral Partha put out years ago. I also like the figures they put out with a mounted and dismounted version. They also had a series of male and female versions of a PC class.

    D&D 5E (2014) +4 magic items - page 285 - Creating a New Magic Item

I have not done it, but if you think it will add to your players' enjoyment of the game at higher levels - go for it. As others have mentioned, I think magic armor is more problematic is 5e.

    Pogre's 2022 Miniatures and Models Thread - Today's Gaming set-up - A Classic D&D Adventure Site!

Not intentional, but today's assortment of minis come through various means. First, is a conventional pewter miniature from Crocodile Games - priestess. Next, is an animated armor miniature a friend printed for me in resin: Finally, a pair of custom sculpted figures my son, Keegan, created...

These are my favorites kind of projects - where you build something for a specific encounter in an adventure. Cannot wait to see what you come up with!

    D&D 5E (2014) WizKids Announce Frameworks Custom Sprue-Based Minis

Well, these things are coming out in late March. Price point is too high, in some cases way, way too high: 7 kobolds for $50! 7 orcs for $50! That's for 5 different kinds of sprues with 2 repeats. They have managed to outprice GW with these kits. The solo monsters are $25 and the individual PCs...

D&D General Your last adventure in photos.

Yeah, the mats are not cheap. I use a large cut of cloth for ocean or large bodies of water. It works great. You can see the cloth in action in an old Viking Raid scenario I ran a few years ago. There is an option to get the mats gridded. I like the look of plain mats as I use them for other...

I use FLG mats from Frontline Gaming. I have a half-dozen of these and they are sturdy and have held up well. The mats are not cheap, but don't buy any at full price - they have frequent sales. FLG mats

D&D 5E (2014) When you've made the battle too much to handle...

I suspect the solution lies in your villain's motivations. Are there ways to move the lich's agenda forward without killing the PCs? Could they help him reach those goals? Perhaps in exchange for being subject to Geas spell and undertaking a mission, the lich let's them live. Are the PCs just in...

D&D General Why do you prefer DMing over Playing?

I prefer DMing because I enjoy adjudicating and entertaining. I also prefer a much faster pace than most. The only reason I play is to gain insight to improve my DMing. I also like to draw maps ;)

D&D General Playing D&D without combat

Agree with most of the above - all legitimate and good as long as your table is having fun. For me, I would use a different set of rules for that style of play. However, in the end, I am not sure why anyone disqualify what you describe as a legitimate way to play 5e.

    Your baby: your own setting

It is my current campaign world for 5e. I am a local area guy and only add in what I need to for the story. So, I started about five or six years ago - when we switched to 5e. I have run 5 campaigns in the world and each time more and more gets fleshed out. The latest campaign has had a lot more...

D&D General Veteran fans - did you think of Basic D&D and AD&D as completely different games?

Not for us. We mixed and matched all the time. We were aware they were different sets of rules we just chose to use what we liked. It was part of coming from O-D&D where you mixed all kinds of things in - heck the rules even referenced other rule systems and games like Chainmail and Outdoor...
