The stone wall: a pure tank build (AC 27+)

I probably would stick with Dex for the reasons above, the big draw of using Strength is access to two-handed weapons, but since we need a shield, we can't use them. The speed penalty for wearing heavy armor is only 10 feet, and since a Dwarf starts with a lower movement speed you're only losing...

The stone wall: a pure tank build (AC 27+)

Wow, I didn't even notice that. The Tough feat looks pretty respectable for a tanking build.

The stone wall: a pure tank build (AC 27+)

The Cleric's ability works on anyone's armor, so even once I get a suit of magic armor (which in my experience is extremely rare, I almost always play in low-magic campaigns) I could always give +1 AC to someone else. I also feel like Shield of Faith is worth going Cleric for. Arcane...

The stone wall: a pure tank build (AC 27+)

We could techincally get even higher AC by multiclassing bladesinger, but needed to max our Int is a significant cost. I think the best use of the last three levels might be going up to Cleric(9), since Forge Clerics get the extremely powerful Animate Objects as a domain spell at 5th level. We...

The stone wall: a pure tank build (AC 27+)

Thank you :) Once we're level 3 cleric, we have 4 level 1 spell slots and 2 level 2 spell slots, so if there's 6 encounters per day we can already use shield of faith for all of them. Plus since it lasts 10 minutes we might be able to carry it between encounters. Oh, I forgot that Martial...

The stone wall: a pure tank build (AC 27+)

I like that, especially since if you go up to 3 levels you could also take Darkness+Devil's Sight to give creatures disadvantage to hit you.

    Scout looking for love

The best way to improve your damage as a Rogue is to find ways to attack during your opponent's turns, since Sneak Attack can be used once on each creature's turn. The best way to force that to happen is to Multiclass fighter(Battle Master) and take the Riposte Maneuver, which gives you a free...

The stone wall: a pure tank build (AC 27+)

Premise of the build: Achieve the highest possible AC, and a large amount of hit points, and some form of mark to discourage the enemy from attacking your allies, in order to effectively mitigate the monsters' damage, while not completely sacrificing our own offensive potential and while being...

    Level 20 Assassinate Crit build.

True, but if we've only got three ASI we'd probably get more value out of getting our Dex to 20.

Advice on a Mountain Dwarf Vengeance Paladin

If you don't have advantage (remember, Vow of Enmity gives you advantage against one foe for a minute per short rest, you most often won't have advantage), then Great Weapon Master isn't adding much damage. Let's say you're at level 4, attacking a target with an AC of 16, and your bonus to hit...

    Level 20 Assassinate Crit build.

I feel like Divine Smite is too powerful an ability to give up. Spending a first-level spell slot on 4d8 = 18 damage, as many times as you want per turn, scaling with higher level slots, for 2 levels seems too attractive not to have. Compared to a Superiority dice, which at this level will deal...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Gloom Stalker / Scout

You actually do get Medium armor proficiency when you Multiclass into Ranger (See PHB page 164 for the proficiencies you get from Multiclassing)

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Gloom Stalker / Scout

If you're going Ranger/Rogue, I think Assassin is a better choice, since Dread Ambusher and Assassinate both work on the first turn of combat and synergize well with each other, or an Arcane Trickster to help preserve your spell slots. If you insist on going scout, I'd start as a Rogue for the...

Advice on a Mountain Dwarf Vengeance Paladin

I feel like if you're only taking a single feat, I'd rather have Polearm Master. In addition to getting an extra bonus action attack, you also get a free OA whenever a target enters your range, which combos extremely well with the Vengeance oath's level 7 ability to move for free after an...

    Level 20 Assassinate Crit build.

Ahh, I looked this up and you're correct. Maybe it would be best to swap Sharpshooter for Alert (and use a Rapier), since I also forgot that Divine Smite only works on Melee attacks.

    Level 20 Assassinate Crit build.

I don't think having high Initiative will help in this case. If you get a surprise round, that takes place before Initiative is rolled. So the plan is to max our Stealth (+5 Dex, Stealth Expertise from Rogue) and sneak up on people/dragons.

D&D 5E (2014) Players forgetting about potions and scrolls

Have an encounter in which an intelligent enemy, after being visibly injured, runs off and quaffs a potion of healing before returning to the fight.

    Level 20 Assassinate Crit build.

Theoretical level 20 nova builds are fun to make! Here's one I'm working on: Wood Elf, Fighter(11)/Paladin(2)/Ranger(4)/Rogue(3) (Eldritch Knight, Gloom Stalker, Assassin) 2 Levels of Fighter are needed for Action Surge, a staple of nova builds, and we're going up to 11 levels for the third...

D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone played a Paladin of Redemption? How was it?

Of the XGTE subclasses, I've been most interested in the Oath of Redemption Paladin. It seems like a very unique character that might be fun to play, but it also seems like the kind of character who could easily become a liability to the party. You've got a lot of strong control magic, but since...
