    Dual Wielder vs. Polearm Master

Dual wielding also gives you the ability to draw two weapons at once using your "interact with an object" action, which I'd consider mandatory for characters who actually want to dual wield, since drawing your second weapon would otherwise take your action. For a class that can't use Polearm...

Which class/build is best for an electrical character?

I've been wanting to build a character who specialized in lightning/thunder damage. There are several different builds that seems to be focused on this, and I'm having difficulty picking from them: Lightning soul dragon sorcerer Storm soul sorcerer Tempest cleric Circle of the land druid (?)...

    OPTIMIZING KENSEI MONK

Your odds of landing a critical hit are 5% (or 9.5% if you're attacking with advantage) Assuming you're using a weapon dice of 1d8 (longsword or longbow until level 17), Savage attacks is adding, on average, (4.5*0.05) 0.225 damage per round if you don't have advantage, or (4.5*0.095) 0.428...

    OPTIMIZING KENSEI MONK

I don't think Half-orc is a great option for Monk. Strength and Constitution are not typically Monk stats (Well Constitution is important for everyone, but it doesn't make up for the fact that you're starting with +2 Dex and Wis at maximum)

    OPTIMIZING KENSEI MONK

The absolute best monk race is Aarakroca, but you can't run one in PHB+1 rules and also be a Kensei. Barring those, Wood elf is another good option, as you can get advantage using Stunning Strike to use Elven Accuracy. If you plan to be frontline, you'll need high AC and better than average...

Modi and Magni --- Northman Brothers

Halflings have a racial trait that gives them advantage vs fear, but a Halfling barbarian isn't the greatest. You could play a Paladin, who can use Dex to attack and gets an aura at level 10 which makes them immune to fear.

D&D 5E (2014) What have you found to be the hardest thing for new players to understand about 5e systems?

The biggest offender I've seen, I don't think I've met a single Beast Master Ranger who remembered that they can add their proficiency bonus to the beast's AC, Attack rolls, and Damage rolls.

D&D 5E (2014) What have you found to be the hardest thing for new players to understand about 5e systems?

This is something I have some trouble with too. I tend to play spellcasters and regularly fall into the trap of thinking that my RP options only include my spell list. Maybe I need to think of 20 different uses for Prestidigitation and Minor Illusion before I come to sessions. I find a large...

D&D 5E (2014) What have you found to be the hardest thing for new players to understand about 5e systems?

I've been a part of a few campaigns now and every single one of them has had players who have never played DnD (let alone 5e) before. On a whole, I’ve been pleasantly surprised as to how many players seem to understand the game after a short explanation and a first session. The two big...

    Character Optimization through play.

That's not true at all. Yes Wizards have good options for disabling, but a wizard can also put out great direct damage, especially since they excel at an area where many other classes are lacking, which is area damage. Magic Missile is a respectable amount of damage for the first few levels...

    D&D 5E (2014) Infinite keepaway Cavalier with Polearm Master+Sentinel

The Cavalier Fighter's Capstone feature Vigilant Defender seems extremely strong in combination with the feats Polearm Master and Sentinel. Vigilant Defender gives you an extra reaction each turn which you can only use to make opportunity attacks, polearm master gives you an opportunity attack...

    Power is Relative

I think also that for a lot of people, it's the process of optimization and not the result that's the point. I know I have many, many more characters than I'll ever have a chance to play, because I find character building and character optimization to be thoroughly enjoyable in their own right...

    Power is Relative

I feel like players who like to optimize their characters brag to much about the fact that they're optimized, because you're right, the DM has an effectively infinite difficulty slider. Therefore, the most optimal strategy is to deliberately undersell your character's power and not let anyone...

    Character Optimization through play.

With limited exceptions, it's advantageous to focus your party's attacks on one target at a time, and finish off one creature before starting to attack another. Most monsters can output the same amount of damage or control at 1 HP than they can at full HP, but once a monster is dead, it ceases...
