And then sorcerers had to pay for everybody's sins.

I was isekai'd to a fantasy world and all I brought with me was a camera.

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

The spellbook might be a single element, but it is one with huge implications. It means spellcasting is a goal, something voluntary which needs constant work to keep going. It also makes magic something serious and for the learned. It means that education has to be accounted for in your...

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

You cannot properly merge wizard and sorcerer without losing one of them. Any merger is either erasing the sorcerer with extra steps, or a failure*. Unless you went truly generic like with the microlite20 mage but that is way more free-form than what D&D usually gets. * If at first level you...

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

At least with fighter it's fully justified. The class truly succeeds at portraying a generic "can be anything" warrior, or mostly at the beginning. Then we had the thief who started to erode at that identity early on. Magic user was always a lousy fit for the "any caster" theme; it has always...

Sadly they completely threw it away for 2024.

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

I'm replaying Shantae Half-genie Hero and Pirate's curse in tandem. After I finish one of them, I'll swap in Risky's Revenge. Then I'll have to buy Seven Sirens and that'll be it. I don't have a Switch for the original and Risky's Revolution isn't out for Steam yet.

California bill (AB 412) would effectively ban open-source generative AI

I'm not a fan of big corporations bullying small mom and pop with the law, but paraphrasing a late 19th century historian "big causes aren't won without aligning with big interests".

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

Similar to how it is technically possible to just roleplay what we call now a sorcerer on pre-2e d&d ediitions, but nobody really does (or ever did) It is possible to ignore mechanics, fluff and survivability and struggle to do it. Because "what is a witch but a female magic user?" am I right...

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

To me, they missed the forest for the trees. Changing stat priorities after character creation is but a fraction of the problem, which is, you shouldn't delay character defining choices. (And they sure didn't learn that lesson)

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

And it becomes what I call the "one character problem". After all that effort to reproduce the experience of a class, you are left with only one character without much more room for individuality and further customization. What was a diverse pool of possible characters very different from each...

    RPG Evolution: Craft Everything

The problem with this is that it encourages combat as the primary game mode. Nothing wrong with it if it's your thing, but for me it is again something that you could get better and more easily from a videogame. A cool idea still (I'd like wizards having to research/learn spells only from...

    RPG Evolution: Craft Everything

I like crafting. I love Minecraft and like crafting sidequests in other videogames. But for pen and paper tabletop, I'm not so sure I want it in. Unlike computers, we need to do the overhead by hand -or need computer assist-. Humans are just not good at bookkeeping, that's why we invented books...

D&D 5E (2014) Couple new Ideas, gauging interest

I just saw this. @Steampunkette I like most of your ideas here. One idea I toyed with when I started to brainstorm my heartbreaker changes to 5e -that I discarded because I went with extreme simplicity instead- was to have wizards (and bards) be consumers of ambient mana, so their ability to do...

    Video Games You Wish Existed

Hear me out. RPG With strong social and interaction engine, not just a dialogue tree that repeats over and over. And please, don't turn allies into non-entities/non-characters once they are recruited. Ideally allies would still be interacted with and they would keep their own distinct own...

The price of streaming vs out right owning

Ok, lets see I have Prime (mostly keep it for the video, I don't buy online that often), Crunchy Roll Disney Plus (Similar to the Prime arrangement but with Mercado Libre) Netflix (with ads) Max/HBO -whatever- (with a lifetime half cost account) Spotify -as part of the family plan, I myself...

There's unsubtle, and there's blatant... n_n I wonder how many more vampire romance songs are out there? ( I can think of Vampire Heart -HIM-, Broken -Sonata Arctica- and Love song for a Vampire - Annie Lenox-)

Yeah, I knew, even before actually learning. During to my "vampire loving" phase -you know, when you just feel like you have to devour Anne Rice's books and wear black- I was primed to ve receptive to vampire subtext. And the song isn't exactly subtle. When I saw this fact in a listicle, my...

TIL that the tamagotchis caused some children to be depressed and faced with loss. Apparently specially in Japan. Here's a note from the NY times. But it only covers part of it. https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/library/cyber/week/052297gadget.html
