D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Well alright, I don't care about grappling. Let me introduce you to some of my main complaints: 1. I think the whole edition was premised on a wrongheaded view of simplicity. It is now a simpler game in a top down sense of using the same keywords whatever, but it is now a harder game to get...

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

They shouldn't replace options with completely different options. Leave the option out, don't confuse everything by declaring up to be down. And, even were we to imagine that a 2014 monster making 5d8 hit points of creatures fall asleep for a minute in a 2024 game would be such a catastrophe...

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

That's because discussion of 5.5 is an Orwellian hellscape where up is down, bad is good, and more complicated is simplified. I'll grant that there are improvements, but they all seem pretty much obvious improvements to make based on 10 years of experience. In many cases they are only...

    D&D General Do THIS, WotC!

I just want a big-book of all 5th edition character options and spells, with Tasha's optional class features integrated, so I could have everything handy in print for a given character without lugging 2-5 books to each session, with a few original 2014 PHB things updated to later standards (eg...

D&D General Can I use your character for an NPC in my new market?

Nicondel (Nick) Riordan, a half elf with Arcane Trickster and Bladesinger wizard levels. He had a legitimate career in appraising magic items for auction, but used is as an opportunity to fence stolen goods and find deserving targets to rob and eventually had to flee to Sigil, which he also...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

I feel like the vibe of this thread is a lot of clever people who clearly hate necromancers coming up with high concept ways to disappoint would-be necromancers. You all should just ban them and the necromancy spells from your table if they're actually causing you so much trouble. Better than...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

I really could not disagree more. There are already far too many "do one thing with a clear intended purpose and nothing more" spells (and abilities, and whatever), and not enough "give you a weird tool to be applied creatively to a variety of situations" spells (etc.). Being able to be...

D&D General NPC Descriptions: DM Formatting Preferences

Option 2, because I'm only going to take the parts I like, and that's easier with bullet points.

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

Hell yes! If I'm going to play a necromancer it's because I want to be a dread lord leading a horde. The one time I played at a 5e table with a necromancer it really was never a problem. The undead were only really useful in combat in a few big planned out battles with lots of enemy targets to...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

Well now that the 2024 rules make all the summons spells just conjure a boring personality and consequence free spirit in the shape of the thing like some sort of video game power, undead are the only "summonses" I'm interested in working with, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who find the...

Who is your favorite James Bond?

Bond has an idiosyncratic personal preference in martinis, and him being a stickler for it is meant to establish him as a man of a certain refinement who knows what he likes and gets it. The trouble is that the line became iconic and for many people the first thing they learn about martinis is...

Bob Worldbuilder debunks the Daggerheart license “scandal”

Indeed. Clicking right off (especially with newer creators, or creators branching into different content) can be a stronger disapproval than not clicking at all. Low average watch time tells the creator its a dud, whereas not clicking just makes them think they're title and thumbnail are duds...

    D&D 5E (2024) Solasta 2 and the 1/2 elf

First off, not everyone liked it because it was "mechanically overpowered". It got one extra ability point, a couple skills, and not much else. A strong choice, but even on the mechanical end it was more that it had features highly flexible to a variety of character concepts that made the...

    D&D General Unseen servant drums

In my view an unseen servant created by a bardic ritual is literally born of the weavings of arcane magic and song, so obviously they can keep a beat, just as one summoned by a wizard is probably intrinsically at home with handling books. But D&D these days seems to want to avoid that level of...

Bob Worldbuilder debunks the Daggerheart license “scandal”

D&D YouTube has a particular problem, in as much as whatever form of it a creator does they generally run out of enough good content to support a channel after, I don't know, maybe 25-50 videos. Mileage will vary, but a year or two of regular videos and almost anyone will be running dry. Their...

Bob Worldbuilder debunks the Daggerheart license “scandal”

Alright, just remember to keep your thumbnail shocked picture confined to only one hand on the cheek. You need to save the two handed, "home alone" shock picture for when you react to someone's reaction.

Bob Worldbuilder debunks the Daggerheart license “scandal”

Oh, but let me do you one better, it's someone you've never heard of discussing the opinions of other unnamed people you've probably also never heard of on a thing that didn't happen.

Bob Worldbuilder debunks the Daggerheart license “scandal”

I mean basically that's what I assume whenever there are D&D scandal videos these days. A lot of content creators got addicted to those scandal clicks during the OGL debacle days, and after they exhausted the rest of their audience's interest, all they've got left is the people who just want to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Solasta 2 and the 1/2 elf

Adventure Hook: Overnight all the half-elves and half-orcs have disappeared from the Sword Coast. Everyone knows a local strange cabal of wizards is responsible, but for some mysterious reason most people are content to just let it happen or would rather debate the merits than take action.

    D&D 5E (2024) Solasta 2 and the 1/2 elf

Half-elf has always been my go-to race for fantasy games that offered it, even before 5e made it a particularly strong choice. Removing them from the game was a mistake for D&D and will be a mistake for Solasta 2.
