It is weird that folks in this thread are "worried" about the witch and warlock terms even though it has not come up here at all, except in people suggesting someone, somewhere, but not here, is mad about it. Maybe let Darrington decide. I bet they have A LOT more player feedback than anyone...

That is just nonsense. Pretending the disparities in design in D&D don't matter because nobody cares about that in play is disingenuous, and we all have experiences to the contrary. Yes, people pick suboptimal choices. But that doesn't mean that ignoring balance creates better play experiences...

For a game meant to offer essentially infinite replayability but is still a game, having a best option runs counter to the design goal.

I think it is worth using environments as intended, whether those are published ones or ones you make with the homebrew kit guidelines. You are obviously comfortable with doing it the way you are, but you might find the more robust environment design adds something to the game. I did.
