D&D 5E (2024) What's New with the Artificer in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Yes. Exactly! I’m cool with the familiar-like homunculus, either as an infusion or a spell. It’s optional. You don’t have to have one. A pet-less Battle Smith would fall into the same category as a spell-less ranger. It requires new mechanics to replace the pet.

D&D 5E (2024) What's New with the Artificer in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Don’t get me wrong! I love pets in real life. I have two cats I adore. I just don’t like pets in D&D, and I don’t like it when they’re baked into the class mechanics. Something like the beast master ranger makes sense - it’s in the very name! (And I get why such classes exist - because some...

D&D 5E (2024) What's New with the Artificer in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

I like the idea of the Battle Smith, but I don’t like pets. I wish you could have the pet be optional.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I just want to state, for the record, that I don't believe there is anything controversial about my avatar. Pukunui is a chubby Māori boy whose name means "big belly". He is the protagonist in a series of classic New Zealand children's books, in which he goes on various adventures in...

D&D 5E (2024) Eberron: Fated Flight of the Recluse *possible spoilers*

Th elemental galleon has a speed of 10 mph. I must have been tired and misread the chart.

D&D 5E (2024) Eberron: Fated Flight of the Recluse *possible spoilers*

I think it’s a typo. We’ll see if it gets corrected at some point. I still suspect they used AI to generate some of the text of this adventure, so maybe it’s the culprit for the 65 days too.

D&D 5E (2024) What's New with the Artificer in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Yeah, and that feature has been nerfed down to one extra plan that must be armor-related instead of the 2024 version which gave you two extra infusions and let you count each part of your armor separately (body, head, boots, gauntlets). I think it’s a deliberate change that implies you can’t...

I don’t know where I got the 10 mph from. Sorry folks!

D&D 5E (2024) What's New with the Artificer in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Hey, there's a bit of hope. The 2014 artificer could only swap out a known cantrip every level. Now they can swap one out every long rest. So maybe next time they revise the artificer, they'll make it so you can swap out one known magic item plan per long rest too! ;)

D&D 5E (2024) Eberron: Fated Flight of the Recluse *possible spoilers*

Compare that to the lightning rail, which goes a paltry 10 mph in comparison. Steam trains back in the day traveled around 30 mph on average. When I think of lightning, I think fast.

D&D 5E (2024) Eberron: Fated Flight of the Recluse *possible spoilers*

There is. It’s 20 mph, so the Recluse is rather slow.

D&D General Species of Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Almost verbatim the same as the MotM version. The only real difference is that they get Advantage on Charisma checks while shape-shifted, which the MotM version doesn't get.

D&D General Species of Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Tone down the hyperbole a notch maybe? Look, I feel similarly about the certain visual aspects of this new book, but I wouldn't say that particular line flies in the face of established lore. I mean, how can your #1 be true if your #2 is also true? That doesn't make sense. "Dragonmarks run...

D&D General Species of Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Here's how they're handling creatures of atypical species having dragonmarks: Centuries of manipulation and consolidation have caused the established dragonmarks to manifest primarily in members of certain family lines. However, exceptions have always existed, and they’ve grown increasingly...

D&D 5E (2024) So the Armorer still need be Wearing before Don his armor.

I think the only benefit that really needs to be "while wearing the armor only" is the spellcasting focus one. You shouldn't be able to use your armor as a focus if it's sitting in a heap out of reach. Also, the "no Strength requirement" benefit only comes into play while you're wearing it. It's...

D&D 5E (2024) So the Armorer still need be Wearing before Don his armor.

The silliness derives from the mechanic's wording, which states that Quick Don and Doff is a benefit you gain "while wearing your Arcane Armor." With a very literal reading, it's logical to conclude that the feature doesn't work as written because you can't put on armor you're already wearing...
