    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I was just pointing out how much someone who started in 5e would have setting support without relying on converting or wikis.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

The only setting that meets that criteria is Forgotten Realms. Eberron had two books and two Adventure League paths, and Ravenloft had an adventure, a book, and a AL path. Still, it beats what every other setting so far has gotten.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Well, Wildemont got an AP (Netherdeep) and Darrington Press released a large amount of 3pp support. If any setting had a chance, it was that one. But you kinda supported my point; so far only Faerun, Eberron and Ravenloft got any sort of ongoing support. SJ, PS, DL, and GH all have token support...

I don't think they did so well on the Book of the Month Club schedule either.

Which settings would you have dropped support for to accomplish that?

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

We've had five new* settings that never had D&D support prior since 5e: Ravnica, Theros, Styrixhaven, Wildemont, and the Radiant Citadel. Three of those came with already included MTG fandom and one with the biggest streaming show in gamings fandom. How much do you think that moved the needle in...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I think what it comes down to is what we are calling the system. You can take the base mechanics of 5.x (d20 vs TN, advantage/disadvantage, proficiency bonus, etc) and build all sorts of games with it it. One Ring and Doctors & Daleks proves that. But you can't take the 5e Players Handbook and...

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

It's worth noting that Van Richten's Guide had a bunch of different origins beyond "offspring of a vampire". Some get rather close to a vampire spawn. Others aren't even vampiric in origin. Dhampir Origins Dhampirs often arise from encounters with vampires, but all manner of macabre bargains...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

It's really not all the GURPS like, based on how much of it isn't as modular as people wanted. I can strip down 5e to brass tacks and rebuild atop it, but I can do that with a bunch of systems. D&D is good for D&D with different amounts of syrup to favor it, but it's not the Generic d20 Fantasy...

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

Before the book was delayed, they did a preview of the Eberron species and confirmed warforged was a construct and Kalshatar an aberration. (Changeling was already turned to a fey in MotM). https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/2017-how-eberron-forge-of-the-artificer-reimagines

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

You already have Ravenloft and Dark Sun to fill that role. I think it would be more interesting to have it between the brightness of Faerun or Krynn and the darkness of the above.

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

I was absolutely sure they would be undead type. I am also surprised they removed the not breathing perk. Necrotic resistance is nice, but it's one of the easier resistance to get. (necromancer, undeath warlock and shadow sorcerer all get it at some point). I'm surprised they got rid of the...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I could possibly see Nerath as a "from the ashes" type setting, but you'd have to walk a fine line to avoid it being grimdark. I still wish we had gotten a consolidated book before 4e burnt out.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Older FF (up to 6) games were fantasy with a bit of Barrier Peaks level tech. Eberron feels the closest to 6 because it's still a medieval based world with a heavy magi-tek mixture. All the FFs from 7 on (save 9) feel more modern/sci-fi with fantasy elements. Cars and motorbikes and skyscrapers...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I always felt Eberron was the FF setting, but I could see them go straight up sci-fi/fantasy rather than wide magic/magical replacesc tech. Less FF 4-6 and more FF 13 -15

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Mystara/Known World is a bit of an odd duck. On the surface it's a very generic D&D setting but just underneath the surface (even somewhat literally) is all manner of weird and interesting stuff. The problem is that it's hard to sell that on first blush as being all that different from Greyhawk...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Eh, I still think that's a pretty thin level of design space to hang a whole setting on. Nerath shows "different for different's sake" isn't enough. Hell, even Mystara, beloved as it is, needed a lot more than "the BECMI setting" to make it work. I'm not saying a setting designed with the...
