How the Monsters Have Changed in the 2025 Monster Manual: Aarakocra

I wonder if the deity Talos will claim these critters under his portfolio (if he hasn't already)? Anyway, I bet a priest of Talos (or the Storm Deity of your choice) might be able to cast a spell granting the returning property to a javelin---especially an Aarakocra-crafted one.

How the Monsters Have Changed in the 2025 Monster Manual: Aarakocra

Yep. I want to use these new critters straight away. With the Thunder damage add on it’s a given that an Aarakocra ambush is something you can hear from far away—just the sort of thing to lure adventurers to the scene of the attack.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you like the Purple Dragon Knight Subclass?

I was not aware that Cormyr was on the list of places the new sourcebooks would update. Are you inferring that Cormyr is to be updated or do you have a link or source that confirms this definitively?

D&D 5E (2024) Rename Purple Dragon Knight to just Dragon Knight?

There’s a difference between updates and retcons. Modern-day Cormyreans still remember the last time a purple-colored dragon flew in the sky (see Fire In The Blood). Those aren’t happy memories.

D&D 5E (2024) Rename Purple Dragon Knight to just Dragon Knight?

I had forgotten about the hyppogriff riders! I think they were based on the western slopes of the Stormhorns, well away from population centers. My thought was the Purple Dragons should be riding wyverns. Plenty of those on Cormyr’s borders.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you like the Purple Dragon Knight Subclass?

lol fyi: writing in all caps doesn’t strengthen an argument. And this is playtest content. Not official content. The Purple Dragons aren’t riding amethyst dragons. Hopefully they never will. Let’s skip over your erroneous mischaracterization of current events in Cormyr, current Cormyrean...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you like the Purple Dragon Knight Subclass?

Heh. A “Knight” in Cormyr is a least noble rank that’s awarded on an individual basis. There are individual Purple Dragons who’ve earned the rank of Knight. (There are non-Purple Dragons who’ve earned it, too.) However, there’s no such thing as a “Purple Dragon Knight.” There are no chivalric...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you like the Purple Dragon Knight Subclass?

Interesting point of view. Regarding the PDK: as written it's a big fat retcon.

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

I can work with this. I’m looking forward to the new Monster Manual.

D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and Cormyr: Flexing My Idea Muscle and Thinking Out Loud

Regarding the new Purple Dragon Knight found in the latest Unearthed Aracana release: For goodness' sake. If the Purple Dragons are going to be riding across Cormyr's skies, it's going to be on wyverns, not fricking amethyst dragons (or any kind of true dragon). Cormyreans don't like seeing...

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

The revised versions of Spellfire and its follow on books are much improved. No more heavy hand of TSR/changing the novel’s direction while it was being written.

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

This is an odd take. The Realms have advanced by nearly a century and a half. A lot has changed. Heck, I remember Ed at GenCon talking about how the Realms must change. Cormyr is a case in point. 4E and 5E saw a boatload of new lore about Cormyr in the form of several novels, Dragon/Dungeon...

Dungeons & Dragons Teases New Campaign Settings

It would be nice to see the other continents of Toril fleshed out.

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

FR got its long, rich history by designers paying attention to to, and being mindful of, what came before (4E excepted). PDKs as presented would only add contradiction, would upend Cormyrean law and tradition, and invite into Cormyr’s territory the last thing anybody wants (dragons). Purple...

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

Queen Raedra, the Mage Royal, the Wardens of the Easter and Western Marches, and not a few others would object; it’s not the place of a commander to make deals like that. Some dragons might take it as tacit recognition by the humans of the draconic claim over Cormyr. They would see humans...
