D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Let say I were to use this in my game So, Has anything been established in play about who passed through here/who built this (dungeon/complex)? Is there any secret backstory (that's my Trad background, in case I want to link this later to something) about who passed through here/who built this...

I think we have to be practical here, the player may also not determine the runes give them mad-xyz. The xyz would have to be measured against the fiction and the game rules in the same way the priest would be willing to do a measured abc and not the examples you sighted.

Great example above by the way. The only counter to this (and I'm not even satisfied with my counter tbh so I'm not really expecting a reply) is that the NPC has known functions (their spells and knowledge) which you can call on. Whereas the runes' functions are determined. Personally I do not...

Sorry I have not been following this thread religiously, what is MHRP? I would expect the answer to my question about the level of creativity permitted on player determination of the runes would similarly have a "DC" that would be decided upon by the GM. At least that is how I would rule it...

I like this example. With a trapdoor, you already know its function. Your roll is to utilise its function. With the runes, you do not know their function. Your roll is to determine (importantly not to discover) their function. Now if you are able to determine the function of the runes (via...

D&D General 70% Of Games End At Lvl 7?

Happy to be within the 30% :) I do not think I will run another long campaign like this. Currently at around the 9-10 year mark as we are having a blast!

Itch.io is shadowbanning or deleting NSFW and LGBTQ content

Yes I understood that much and I agree with you. I was just being thorough on other aspects in my reply.

Itch.io is shadowbanning or deleting NSFW and LGBTQ content

Understood - thanks. I do not believe there is a difference TBH, but that is neither here nor there. Sure. Books stores online or in the RW have the right to determine what they sell. It becomes a little less black-and-white, IMO, when you have international stores like (Amazon) censor...

Itch.io is shadowbanning or deleting NSFW and LGBTQ content

I'm not well versed in this IT stuff but just a query is Itch like a gaming platform or online store? If yes, then your post is making the case that a series of books is comparable to games which may include revenge porn and beastiality? If the answer is yes it should be comparable and that we...

That's hardcore, you still use level drain! Have you ever collaborated with a player using a non-traditional playable race or class for their backstory to fit your campaign or has it always been a no?

Well, it depends how long this thread to goes on for, and only if you round-up, which I should say is not the norm for hit points and damage and shouldn't be for age ;) Well, our characters tend to be younger the older we get as players

I stand to be corrected (@Lanefan) but Lanefan may prefer a lower crit count because they do not use 1e/2e's system for hit point generation and far less healing is available all round, also their game likely employs a slower natural healing from those earlier editions.

I would imagine for this discussion, that lore is built into appearance, right?

Your framing of one person obeying another is not how the hobby is enjoyed amongst friends. I would not frame football (soccer for the 350k in the US) as people kicking a ball around. So not permitting a race, a class, a sub-class, a class feature or a spell for a game/campaign is asserting...

What is the distinguishable difference between the two? Custom a well-known published setting or building a setting from scratch? I could run the Principalities of Glantri during the lycanthrope epidemic (where halflings and dwarves were blamed and hunted), I could run Forgotten Realms sans...

But but but...then you (or the table) get to come up with some wonderfully creative thing occur in the narrative, if not a success, then something unique or interesting...you get to flex the creative muscle. i.e. bard attempts to seduce dragon but instead dragon finds the bard amusing, perhaps...

Besides the RAW being terrible IMO, I think you're forgetting that the entire debate was centered around a Fail Forward. Are you saying a GM couldn't rule that you struggled with the lock and it took longer than RAW, and likely longer? I recall @AlViking and I were providing time loss as a...
