OSR If you were going to commit to one clone of older edition D&D going forward, what would it be?

I wanted to say OSRIC... but if I'm being honest with myself - if I have to play a clone then OSE all the way. Much as I love AD&D, one thing I've learned is that it takes some doing getting other players into it and committing to the nuance... where OSE is an easy sell and much more new player...

    AD&D 1E Common House Rules for AD&D?

In 1st Edition, Dexterity does add to your personal initiative if you're using missile weapons specifically... perhaps that's what you were thinking of? Maybe a 2e game you played used this rule?

    Time in the Campaign

Yes, basically. Any time advancing the calendar won't be appropriate. Leaving off in a dungeon right before an encounter because the game went long for instance. Or a time sensitive adventure where advancing the calendar by the two weeks betweeen sessions wouldn't be logical and could disrupt...

    Time in the Campaign

I do track time similar to what's outlined, but not 100% exactly. As written in the 1e DMG sort of assumes a West Marches style game with multiple players and characters. That said, I use the metric of time away from the table passing = to real time, but not all situations in-game allow for...

D&D 5E (2014) How does your group determine ability scores?

In pretty much any edition of D&D (at least the ones I've played regularly) I feel it's enemy parties comprised of PC classes that can be the most dangerous.

D&D 5E (2014) How does your group determine ability scores?

That's wild. Do you get a lot of complaints when the subsequent rolls go south? I've seen players get really salty when it comes to hit points...

D&D 5E (2014) How does your group determine ability scores?

I don't make it of higher level, I keep it equal to the PC. The purpose isn't punishment. It's in part to show that stats aren't the be all and end all of a character. It's also in part something I felt could be interesting in a game - to have a nemesis off the bat. So I gave it a try. Like I...

D&D 5E (2014) How does your group determine ability scores?

D&D 5E (2014) How does your group determine ability scores?

Apologies, I wasn't clear - I don't give them ANYTHING I want - I craft the NPC villain only with options that are 100% player facing. This is a character the player could have made.

D&D 5E (2014) How does your group determine ability scores?

Yup, that was the exact response from one player who took the option... as expected. ;) Alas, that player left the game after the PvP he initiated didn't go his way, but when I showed the curious players the NPC who was after him they got worried and were glad he was gone because they didn't...
