I’d change it (and do) to a more traditional XP system. It’s basic XP system makes more work for the DM who wants to run old school D&D modules a pain in the butt.

I love Shadowdark, but I REALLY hate the xp system. Sure it works if you just use stuff made for SD. But If I want to use it to run say Keep on the Borderlands, I have to sit and do real work to convert the gold/xp to SDs way of doing things. I've had a lot of people tell me how to do quick...

I printed out the pdf on 8.5x11 paper and mostly use that. The small digest size book isn’t super convenient as a DM IMO. Every time I try to read from the actual book I feel like I’m going to break it in half if I turn the pages to fast or something.

They have added the Books Only (with PDFs) pledge.

Great thing about Shadowdark when introduced to a D&D 5E group is that’s it’s basically 5E trimmed of all the bloat and super powers.

My Faerun games are always in the 2E era despite what ed I’m playing. It’s funny how much WotC had to fix things after 4th. Oh eh Volo is still alive because if magic. And so is Minsc. And eh, Drizzts friends are all alive again! Caderly still gone though :(
