5(.5)E is incredibly scared of the players not feeling useful and powerful 110% of the time. And yeah the HP bloat is ridicules and not fun at all. Combat should be fast (and kind of deadly). Anywho, see: Shadowdark.

I recently read Conan so.... Recently been reading Fafnir and the Gray Mouser and The Witcher stuff. Taking break in between Fantasy to read some Scifi and YA stuff (sometimes you want a cheeseburger instead a steak). AND going back through all of the Drizzt novels.

Much like his father, he just wanted to game and make games for people and he was taken advantage of by those he called friend. Al east, he did in fact get to game and game and game. One can only hope to do that in retirement (lol my gen and on will never get to retire)

He recently took a turn for the worse and was going in and out of the hospital. He kept regular updates on his FB. Even posting from his hospital bed. He fought till the end.

Yeah I already pay $5 a month for DDB so me and all my players have access to the books I own (just core 5.5). As long as we play 5.5 I’ll kick in for it (im reimbursedwith snacks) Saves everyone a bit of $ instead of having everyone buy a PHB etc. Especially when we may change systems in 3-4...

I did have a "I'm just here for gold and glory." thing added to the post but deleted it. IE "I adventure to adventure." It's a very old school philosophy. Sane people don't go fight Liches and Dragons. Most adventures could retire very comfortably after their first goblin filled dungeon.

Store it away for later retirement. Once you realize that gold is fairly pointless after like 3 levels, game makes more sense.
