I think that, back in the day, this "multiverse" approach was very important because players moved often from one game to the other and brought their PCs with them (witness all the discussion about this topic in the DMG). Personally, I've always loved B2. I played it back then and I've ran it a lot of times. So versatile, there's a ton of stuff that you can do with it. And, BTW, the lack of a story-line is a definite plus for me.

I my own games, I don't really have this whole multi-verse thing. What I have though, is that - with very few exceptions - each campaign that I run is a new and separate "instance" of the "world". So, my last Greyhawk campaign for 5e was separated from my previous AD&D one and whatever happened...

The description in the Encyclopedia Magica is the same as in the 2e DMG, except for the addition of an extra "Kara-Tur" table that adds the OA races and classes (even tough, for some reason, the races and classes are mixed).

Probably because bards are druid-like and thus "closer" to clerics. Elves and half-orcs can't normally be resurrected, I think that's the reason for the great cost for them.

Just a random aside. After reading this thread, I looked at the magical weapons table and I discovered that in the DMG there's no chance to roll a dagger +1, which must have been one of the more common magical weapons in modules! Since I bought Unearthed Arcana before the Dungeon Master Guide...

The only thing unclear (to me) on that combo is that the description of the gauntlets and the girdles might seem to imply that their bonus would stack for any magic hammer, while I'm pretty sure that they do only do for "Thor's hammer".
