    D&D 5E (2014) Next Character Builder Update?

If I remember right the Hengeyokai was originally published as a playtest, and recently finalized. Think it will be due in the builder next month in that case.

Dragons in the Dungeons of D&D

The Slaying Stone for 4e has a brass dragon that's designed more as a social encounter and not for slaying, also

    "Themes"

The mechanics of themes are similiar to kits (though I'm less familiar with 2e so I'm just going with Morrus' description), however they're not tied to a specific class. So a samurai cleric would work mechanically - storywise it sounds like it would be a good fit for someone that wanted to play...

A small handful of new 5E designers' quotes: Design Goals, Healers, Art, OGL

I happened to recently come across another mention, tracked down description from back then. The relevant part:

Vecna skill challenge in Thunderspire Labyrinth

It's been a while so I forgot exactly how it was playing out, but I think we were using skill rolls to represent if the information we gave was actually something Vecna might be interested in. I tried to tie in some recent events with my character, a star pact warlock- we recently had a fight...

4e Themes - need an update?

One theme that I think has a lot of unused potential is the Martial Scientist. I really like the flavor of it, but the mechanics seem to not really reflect a person who has spent years studying how to fight. Being a (non-martial) scientist myself, I see a tendency for us to hone in on the little...

Anyone active on the Wizards boards?

I don't know about any particular threads devoted to Zeitgeist, though I have been talking it up whenever I come across people asking non-WOTC adventures or how to introduce more modern elements.

4e Themes - need an update?

I really like the gunsmith modification options, I'm not sure about the sharing enhancement bonus for firearms though. Mechanically it seems to be intended to limit the number of enchanted weapons you need to acquire, but storywise I have a hard time picturing why this would work. I also like...

Pixie in heavy armor: Penalty to fly speed?

I think the technicality is the answer. The compendium defines speed as "The distance (in squares) that a creature can move using the walk action." and says armor "imposes a penalty on its wearer's speed", not movement or something like that. In contrast the slowed condition specifically calls...

    Red Box discontinued......Smart Move?

On the similar thread over on the WOTC site Steve Winter chimed in to say they're not discontinuing it. Sounds like conflicting information with distributors telling stores it's not available. Whoops! Browser Settings Incompatible

    CB and MB on Ubuntu?

You can run windows on a virtual machine, but you need to be able to install a full version of windows. One program I'm aware of is called VMware, there might be others as well. You can also dual-boot, which is what I do since I only have the windows that came pre-installed and need it rarely...

    CB and MB on Ubuntu?

Moonlight can run some silverlight stuff, but it doesn't have all the all the features of the latest silverlight. Character builder hasn't ever worked for me, and never even bothered testing the monster builder. I haven't heard of anyone successfully running it either.

    Dungeon & new monster math

Looks like Monster Manual 3 came out in June 2010, so you should start seeing things after that, which would be Dungeon 179. There might be stuff showing up a bit before that, but I'm not certain.

Converting elements from FR to Eberron

Not aware of anything, the closest I can think of is the artificer articles a little while back that went the other way, but might give you some ideas of how themes could translate. If you post what kind of things you're looking to convert I'm sure some people can give advice.

Dungeon 195 - Bestiary: Flowers in the Darkness

Nice article. I think my players might find the city they just found that's been infested with ghouls might have also been conducive to Dusunu as a way to mix things up.

4e Themes - need an update?

I was actually thinking about this earlier today. Basically my thought was it's fine as long as the themes in use are balanced. Since the Zeitgeist themes would be most likely to be used I was just going to say that if my player's wanted to use a different theme they'd only get the level 1...

D&D 3.x 3.5 player needs help into first 4e characther

If you're interested in combining classes you probably want to take a look at the Player's Handbook 3 which has options for hybrid classes, which is a bit closer to the way multiclassing used to work, compared to the multiclass feats in 4e, though I agree with (Psi)SeveredHead that may be a...

    Treasure parcels

If something asks for two level 1 parcels you pick any two of the 10 level 1 parcels from the tables, similarly if it says level two parcels. If you have something saying to place 2 level 1 and 2 level 2 at the same time I suspect there's an error somewhere since you should only be handing out...

    Essential Essentials

Pretty much in agreement with the others. The Rules compendium is nice for updated rules. Other than that, if the players are happy with the PHB1-3 characters not much reason for them to get the essentials books beyond a few feats.
