D&D 5E (2014) Unsandboxing Princes of the Apocalypse

You could do it that way. But the temple is a single temple, built by dwarves. The fane was built beneath it by drow. Nothing wrong with changing that up, but that's how it was written.

D&D 5E (2014) Unsandboxing Princes of the Apocalypse

Like MonsterEnvy said, the temple levels aren't right beneath the keeps.

D&D 5E (2014) Unsandboxing Princes of the Apocalypse

One level off isn't anything to worry about. 5e's flatter math makes this kind of thing a lot more doable that the previous couple of editions. The PCs in my game got to Red Larch at Level 5, and the place they first found out about was Scarlet Moon Hall. It was a tough fight when they first...

D&D 5E (2014) What to do if a player keeps reading the adventures

Doubtful. He already told everyone that he knows what's going to happen. I'm guessing he thinks what he's doing is not a big deal.

D&D 5E (2014) What to do if a player keeps reading the adventures

...I'm afraid I have some bad news. Trying to change someone else's behavior is unlikely to work, but will likely create resentment. If you're committed to playing with him, you might just have to suck up the shenanigans.

D&D 5E (2014) What to do if a player keeps reading the adventures

I don't know what adventure this is, but if the players need to find something hidden to keep things moving, that's some poor design. Finding hidden stuff should be a bonus, not a requirement. But that's besides the point, I guess. :)

    DRAGON+ Now Available For Ratings

Personally, I like the split. The right format for the right content. With digital content, providers aren't limited to "everything between two covers" format that was easier to do with dead tree mags. No more finding a magazine (or a pdf, or an app) and leafing through trying to find an...

D&D 5E (2014) What to do if a player keeps reading the adventures

Sounds like a real stand-up fellow. I'd tell him the next game is on June 31. :p

    DRAGON+ Now Available For Ratings

Though I think they could maybe improve the content somewhat, I personally wouldn't care for this. I wouldn't want gaming material tucked away inside a cumbersome app. I hope they stick to fluffy read-and-done articles.

Titansgrave and why 5E needs a setting (or two) (and another take on a suggested product lineup)

I haven't watched any of this yet, but this reminds me of when I was listening to Wil's reading of the Redshirts audiobook. So many "he said"s and "she said"s. It got a bit aggravating, but I was more thinking it was a problem with Scalzi's writing than Wil. But maybe it's the way he says it...

Titansgrave and why 5E needs a setting (or two) (and another take on a suggested product lineup)

It seems to me, the point of Wil using Titansgrave as his setting, is to show that people can create settings and adventures therein themselves. There are other reasons, of course. And he has has people helping him with it, because it's not just a home game that no one else is going to see...

[SPOILERS] Mike Schley's PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE Maps: Take 2!

If you want fog-of-war with a handout-style map, you can make a DIY scratch off with 2 parts paint, one part dish soap. Print the map as a hand out, paint it up with the mixture, and then scratch out the areas the PCs visit as you go. Probably easier and less messy to do it digitally with a...

    A New DRAGON+?

Maybe the bad idea was calling this Dragon. People expect a certain thing associated with that name. This is a mobile app that can take the place of scrolling through social media when one is standing around with nothing to do. It's not meant to be substantial content. It's not meant to be...

    D&D 5E (2014) New Errata "Vision"

That's how it reads to me, too.

    D&D 5E (2014) New Errata "Vision"

It means, for example, if you are standing in complete darkness, you're blind for purposes of anything else in the darkness, but not for anything not obscured by the darkness, like someone standing 100 feet away holding a lit torch. It's just a common sense ruling that was apparently required...

D&D 5E (2014) Elemental Evil Miniatures are Pretty Cool

If you want a good deal on EE minis, getting the board game gets you a lot of them. They're unpainted, but, for me it works out to about 1/3 the price. The actual board game is a bonus.

D&D 5E (2014) Variable Short and Long rests

I like the idea of changing rest times depending on environment. Overland travel, short rest is 8 hours, long rest is a week. If there's a lot of back-back dungeon-style fighting, the default works great.

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Ammunition

If your PC is first to attack, true. But it quickly becomes apparent. And assuming a magical-looking foe is normal weapon resistant is a decent assumption.

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Ammunition

That's a very results-oriented way of looking at it. Looking at it as a higher potential to hit with every arrow makes it a better choice than a regular arrow, always. That's basic game theory. You could also save magic arrows for attack resistant creatures, then they more than double your...
