I strongly disagree! We jumped from 1E to 4E and played the two the same way. If anything I think 4E is more flexible in place styles traditional 1E, 3E, or 6E. People just got hung up on some things and somehow it squashed the creativity. That was not a problem for us.

I feel like we’ve played the same way from 1e all the way through 5e. Though I admit we skipped 2e and 3E. It just feels we play the way we want to play and the mechanics either work or we change them!

Yep, less than a week per piece for the art my partner commissioned. If artist want to make money they need to work fast!

My partner has commissioned art by contacting artist through deviantart.com I will say you need to be more careful now as the site is flooded with amateur AI art, so you will need to work a bit more to find a true artist. Artstation as more pro’s IMO, but they will cost more too

But how can a player role play their character if the player doesn’t know the things the character does / should? It’s the DMs world, shouldn’t the DM tell players some basic info their character should / does know? See @SteveC ’s post right after yours (post #120)

Sure, but the whole background mechanic gives a large assumption of knowledge that really isn’t defined if the DM doesn’t provide the information. There’s a bunch of stuff that character should know, if the DM isn’t willing to allow that, well that kind of sucks I think as a player myself.

Right, typically a character would know stuff outside of simply what they have been played through.they have a whole history and knowledge that predates them being PCs

So if people typically know things, yet you tell them nothing aren’t you seriously breaking immersion and realism in your games? So is intelligence, wisdom, and charisma. But you seem to suggest those have to be role played and use rules. Just curious why that doesn’t also include strength...

And weird, people typically know things about the world they live in. how so do you enforce weak players portraying really strong characters? Do they roll to smash in a door, or do you let them beat on a door in your house? Then why do people play magic users or fantasy races or in a fantasy...

There are prices by rarity in the 2014 DMF too. Though I heard these have been updated in the 2024 DMG
